You can only sign a free agent if he was a free agent before the window closes, otherwise they have to wait till the next registration window.

WTF are you going on about?

He was at a Kazan game at the weekend, in the stands. They own him he's just been the subject of a summer long wrangle between your club and theirs whereby they were too stubborn to let him leave and ended up cutting off their noses to spite their face and you think they'll just let him train with Sunderland?

Who insures him in your scenario?

He can't he's owned by somebody else. Just because a player isn't registered to play with their club doesn't mean they can go galavanting around other teams training grounds. He doesn't belong to us. He's not a free agent, you can't do that ****,

Even if I got the 1st bit wrong (last I heard he was in France) and he was in ****ing russia a week ago, he isnt there now is he? Wtf are Kazan going to do if he doesnt go back, cancel his contract ?

No they'll sue him, fine him, or possibly suspend him on no pay. He'll lose the best part of £2m and possibly some bonuses that are due.

I don't think you've thought this through.
