I agree. It's not Romeu's passing that worries me, it's his sharpness in the tackle and turning circle (when he gets beaten) that fills me with dread. Compare him to Kante who was just impossible to shake off and, in the extremely rare event that you could, he would be back snapping at your heels in seconds.

A small terrier-like player that doesn't give up on a fight?

Now if only we had a player that fit that description...

I don't know that it has yet been proven, that Romeu isn't suitable in that role.

Just my opinion, but a sole DM has to be extremely disciplined, with regards to positioning, and has so many more decisions to make, than a DM with another DM alongside him, and, again just my opinion, he sets the tone/balance of the team.

I said the other day that , IMO, VVD would make a perfect DM, in this specific role, because of his qualities as a footballer, his athleticism and his understanding, from a CB's perspective, as to where the DM should be playing. Not everyone would agree with that, but I would certainly like to see it trialed.

Watching the Watford and Sunderland games, I kept wondering if, with Romeu often dropping into the back four, that might allow VvD to get forward more. It didn't happen yet, perhaps because Virgil felt he needed to stay back or we'd be opened up. Still think that might be the intention though.

Quite funny how no one seems to rate Wilshere, yet they are happy with a midfield containing JWP, Clasie, Davis & Romeu....

You can bet any money if Wilshere was a Saints player he'd be considered the best English midfielder alive (by Saints fans).

My issue with Wilshire is not talent, but value for money in a "games played" equation. Why would we take him at a cost if he doesn't play?

Patrick Bamford finds another club as a loanee. When is this guy going to deliver, or is he one of those players who promise so much but deliver so little? I hope for his sake and Burnley's that he can start to repay the faith shown in him earlier in his career.

PS: Anyone one here think he's covering for the soon to be suspended Andre Gray?

Think Harrison Reed would be good at that.

I don't think he was 4th choice when fit. When he came on at Old Trafford, was Maya injured?
I looked this up ages ago but couldn't remember the exact numbers so I've just checked again.

In 2014/15 Gardos made 11 league appearances (3 starts). Yoshida made 22 league appearances (14 starts).

Only fair to point out that 2 of Yoshida's starts were at RB and one at LB but to me it still seems clear he was 3rd choice ahead of Gardos. You certainly couldn't claim Gardos was ahead of Yoshida in the pecking order.

Yoshida was on international duty for that Man Utd match (and for the next game against Newcastle, which was one of Gardos's 3 starts).

A number of people here banging on about Harrison Reed. Do you really think he'll ever make the breakthrough or is he another one destined to find success at a lower level, a la Surman ,who is now back in the PL after a circuitous route?

Thanks Puck. Seems pretty clear from that. I couldn't remember if Maya was there at Old Trafford or not. It will be interesting to see how Gardos progresses.

We've never been in a position to judge Gardos properly....he needs a run in the team when fully fit. Scarcely played enough to get used to the EPL. I don't think he will get many chances now as Yoshi is the experienced player if anyone is injured. I like the lad....hope he stays fit, whatever else happens to him.

I think each were preferred on different side, not 100% though

Looking forward to Gardos regaining his fitness and showing what he can do. I think he looked very capable in the few game he played before.
Sadly I have to disagree. Gardos seems a great guy (even talked to him a few times), but I would like to bring in a better cb then him.
