So wooley liberal, how would you deal with the person who murderer one of your family, in a legal sense, 10 years, a smack on the wrist and told not to do it again?

Fortunately the legal system isn't dictated by what the victim's family wants so what I would want in that situation isn't really relevant. Like I said, treat every case differently but 10 or 20 years in a prison is a long time. You know there is something in between "wooley liberal" and hanging all the murderers/*****s/Romanians?

Custard you should try converting to Islam...an eye for an eye is allowed.....this bit I'm not sure you will like....total forgiveness is also acceptable if granted by the next of kin.

Only give my opinions.Stats and google are not for me.Try it some time.
This is one of the major reasons why society is struggling in a lot of areas, in my opinion.
People don't give a crap about evidence or what actually works, they prefer to go with their gut and what they believe.
I don't think that I'll ever understand this perspective, to be honest.

Whats Romanians got to do with this, you are turning into a simple Stan, boring as hell.

So you are happy to have the murderer of one of your family serve only 10 years, you really are a strange wooley liberal are you the one who complained about about some Morris dances blacking there face up?

I would want no less than 25 years minimum tariff served and 10 years of that hard labour no TV or anything but 4 blank walls.
So what you you want, if you could choose (humour me), like I asked in the original question

I understand where you're coming from, but what do you think that guy would be like when he got out?
If he was murdering people when he went in, then he'll come out even bloody worse after being treated like that.

Our prisons aren't up to much, but the American-style ones seem utterly ineffective and possibly make criminals worse.
Scandinavian ones might appear to be too nice and easy for society to accept, but their recidivism rates are extremely low.
If we're going to let people out, then they need to be able to contribute and avoid crime when they're released.

I'll answer the part of the post I can decipher. Slow down and you might get the words right.

Yes, obviously if someone murdered my mum or dad or whatever I'd want them imprisoned for life but it's wrong to bring emotion into the debate. That doesn't mean that's the best solution for society as a whole.

I have no idea what you're on about with Morris dancing.

What always bothers me is when someone gets sent down...they come out of prison looking like ****ing Hercules. I would remove all extra curricular activities so that when they return to society they don't feel like they are some big shot but someone who has been weakened physically and mentally.

****ing gyms in prison...**** off.

So why should any murderer get less, irrespective who they kill

It's a matter of degrees of culpability and intent.

Yes, the very worst, the irredeemable, should be locked up and the key thrown away. But that can't apply to every case of murder.

The French have had 'Crime Passionel' for ages. Let's say you come home in the middle of the day and find your missus in bed with another guy. You lose it, and!!.....

Should you get the same punishment as a serial killer, a child killer?
