Relatively minor point I know, but irritating all the same...

Towards the end of last season, I stopped being able to connect to the stadium wifi at the KC. I still can't connect. I have an iPhone 6 and am on EE payg - same as before. Normally get great service around town but on match days my data connection slows so much it's worthless - can't even connect to BBC sport to check the scores, which I presume us network congestion. Used to use the wifi which wasn't super fast, but was reliable enough for websites and social media.

Now i just get a "can't connect to this network" message. Is it just me?

It's ****.

Even when I connect it is so bad I give up. Someone must be managing to use it to block up the capacity!?

Pretty ironic considering who sponsors the stadium. Perhaps the new owners would consider decent wifi a good thing for the customer/fans. (Presume the press wifi is working fine?)

I'm also on EE4G and was getting 75mb down load on Spring bank yesterday as opposed to 2 or 3 I got last season.
I finally got on Wifi at the stadium which is less that 1 amb and pretty hopeless. 4G inside the KCOM is useless

It makes you wonder what people used to do at football games before wifi and 4G, must have been pretty boring just sitting there and having to watch the game.

Bloke next to me was always on his phone. Results and betting i think.

I struggle to get wifi to connect, never mind work.
4g is pants too, due to the capacity issues on the masts I reckon.

Why is it so bad inside? Does anyone manage to use it or is it a load of bullshit and there isn't really any!

Loss of four g is just the overload on the nearest mast.

Why the wifi is **** is beyond me.

25460 people inside the stadium and you expect the wifi to be quick and the decent download speed with 4G all from the nearest signal mast???

Would you expect your bath tap to stay at same speed when the toilet gets flushed?

I bet if you went there right now, it would be pretty decent.

I have heard they put blockers on the wifi and networks because the press get their own wi fi to stream pics and the like, makes sense because before the game it's ok, then even text won't send when the games on

Wembley Stadium is sponsored by EE, I'm on EE, every time I've been there I can't even get a phone signal let alone Internet!
I was thinking the exact same thing, having experienced exactly that too.

However, it doesn't sit well with the victim mentality of some.

Unlikely that they outright block it. They will run seperate SSIDs for the media which will undoubtedly have seperate networks associated with them and subsequent quality of service provided. (Read: Priority) Once that's done whatever bandwidth is left is there to be fought over by the 10k+ active devices in the stadium. Couple of issues here, firstly an access point typically can only hold so many users so some people can't even connect but more so an issue is that you are fighting it out with too many people to try and actually use your phone, these days as soon as you connect to wifi android will start running downloads and updates etc all resulting in a total meltdown of anyone been able to actually do anything.

Getting Wi-Fi correct in stadiums can be done but it's difficult. Requires networking experts and bloody expensive. A hell of a lot harder than implementing some QR codes and by all accounts we can't get that right for starters.

Stadium wifi is crap, it is in keeping with Karoo having the slowest internet speeds in the UK

The crap wi-fi is nothing to do with KCOM. They obviously provide the line in, but the SMC have their own network gear which is the bit that hardly anyone can connect to.

The last part of your post isn't true. Ofcom's most recent report showed TalkTalk were the slowest provider of standard broadband, and in recent years KCOM has actually been fastest in the country. The differences are very small though. In terms of the fibre stuff, KCOM are absolutely miles ahead of anyone else.
