I was more meaning deadline day panic buys.

I actually think we will see quite a few this year. Normally transfer deadline day is a bit of an anti-climax, but it feels like there are a lot of clubs that still need to strengthen.

Think I may have found one.... Levy wants £14m for Mason...

Middlesbrough have agreed a season-long loan deal for Arsenal defender Calum Chambers,report Sky Sports.

The 21-year-old joined the Gunners from Southampton for £16m in July 2014 and has played 59 times for Arsene Wenger's side.

Will Saints buy again? Or will they call that it? Now Rodriguez is staying they will feel they've enough.
Personally I think they've spent quite a lot,more in monetary terms instead of buying loads of players cheaper,for me that's what I like.

Looking at one and maybe another.

Out;

Wanyama 12.5 M
Mane 36.5 M
Pelle 12 M
Juanmi 4 M
Koeman and Co 5 M
Total = 70 M

Ins;

Redmond 11 M
Pierre 13 M
McCarthy 3 M
Pied Free
Boufal 16 M
Total = 41 M

Looking at it like that, We can comfortably bring in 1/2 more players.

New contracts for: Forster, Cedric, Fonte (potentially), Van Dijk, Bertrand, Davis, Ward-Prowse, Tadic, Long

Needs taking into consideration when it comes to budgeting. Fraser's five-year deal is an outlay of around £20m. £4m per year for five years.

It's all budgeted for. Saints don't just sign the paperwork and worry about it later.

So that's £20m on securing Forster, before you even consider Cedric, Jose, Virgil, Ryan, Steven, James, Dusan and Shane.

I know it's not a standard thing for everyone to consider but these guys don't play for free, or cheaply!

Looking at our squad for me it's not the worst,I do think we're going to miss Mane,and I'd be surprised if we bought anyone else.
Having said that I'd like a Mane/Lallana ilk player,but it ain't my money :1980_boogie_down:

When I returned to the car after the game Saturday, the 5live commentator was reviewing the game.
His view was that Southampton were in complete control and were it not for the penalty then Sunderland never looked like scoring.
He thought our equaliser looked inevitable and we were unlucky not to win in the end.

Not dismissing concerns, but the neutral didn't see anything terrible in our performance

That's what I've been saying this whole time, too. We were great the first 15 minutes. We were legit pretty bad the rest of the first half, but we got through that spell. Second half we were in control and applying decent pressure and I felt like a goal (or two) was inevitable. Their keeper made a couple of good stops. Austin got caught offside by a inch. That was what was keeping them in the game.

The penalty was against the run of play. And really that was the only time Sunderland threatened that half, if you can even really call that threatening.

I'm a little surprised, because people seemed to be more positive after the Man U game. I didn't think we played that well against them although obviously it's a tough opponent.

But Sunderland was one of those games that happen to everyone. You outplay the other team, but make one or two poor mistakes and you let them sneak away with a point.

I don't think that anyone's failing to take it into consideration. But over the course of those five years, beyond the player sales we're budgeting against team revenues that will likely fall in the range of £700-850m. Even with all of the new contracts, our wage-to-turnover ratio is going to fall.

Most people on here are sharp enough to, yep, but you've obviously been spared the perils of Saints Twitter and Facebook.
