Managers can use more the one formation. Just because that's what has been used in the first 3 games, doesn't mean it is the only formation Puel can/will use. Give it time.
I won't, I'm going to sack him first thing in the morning.

.
I have all sorts of witty comebacks to this but let's just keep it to football - No. I wouldn't expect a professional football manager to give up on a poorly considered and poorly executed formation after just a few matches. I'd fully expect them to change it at half time in the very first match! This is not a kickabout in the park. It's not a training session. It's the Premier League. It's hundreds of millions of pounds and our livelihood. If the man has four or five formations up his sleeve, let's use one that will work with our squad and save the diamond for training, not vice versa.
I'm not being negative at all, it's plain honesty to say that everything I've seen so far this season points to us getting the basics wrong tactically:
- Tadic and Redmond should are best on the wings
- Romeu and Clasie are best in a Pivot
- The back four lacks protection
- The ball doesn't stick up front in this system
My guess is it will improve, but the point of forum is to discuss this stuff. I like the tactical discussions on here. What's the point of a football forum if we just say "the manager is 100% correct every game"
Disagree. MoPo oozed charisma even if that wasn't drawn out in pressers. He had a calming coolness about him
I don't think it's unfair on anyone who is paid a great deal to perform a role to perform it to the best of their abilities. In the arena of professional sport that, to my mind at least, means doing your utmost to beat the team in front of you, whoever they are. How many games and how many lost points is acceptable to bed in a new system? I think I know the answer that all of the absolute winners would give, and it's less than two. I'm not calling for his head, I'm simply pointing out that contrary to what you said in the post I responded to initially, most managers would be changing something that patently isn't working in order to try and win the game and not persevering with it for the next couple of games too. I'd call it common sense rather than an unreasonable demand.Brendy, you are one poster who has eloquently been saying that we should have been better prepare in terms of signings earlier in the window
We clearly disagree then. Perhaps it looked good in training. Perhaps it worked in pre-season.
All this now is about fans demanding instant success. I get that, I really do, but I I think it's unfair on the new manager.
I felt he had an irritating gitness about him, but there you go.
Moyes also saw he was getting over run in midfield, so changed to a five man midfield. That is when Sunderland started to worry us.Moyes said he played a diamond too. Says he has to be flexible due to lack of players and has to play to stop other teams scoring. Have to say I have read several match reviews in the papers and they all concentrate on their goalie...I guess we are used to being more entertained, but no media reports suggest anything overly wrong with us. Time to chill.....and pray![]()
For the record Os, I've not accused you of being negative (or intended to).
I've also not said the manager is 100% right. This is the sort of extreme translation that starts a row and I'm not going to do that.
Just because I've raised an alternative view it downs mean i'm accusing you of being negative (I actually find your posts fine). It also doesn't mean I'm saying you are 100% away from my view or the manager is 100% right. I too like the tactical discussion, but it is those that go over the top with the negativity that drive me nuts and those who appear to expect business as usual after a big change.
Ok, this is just my take on it.
The Puel diamond sees the 2FBs push high up the pitch (on both sides, not just the side where the ball is), the 2CBs play further apart than they would in a normal 442 or 433, and the ONE defensive midfielder is supposed to sit slightly ahead of the CBs, but dropping in between them, should one of them get pulled wide.
Saints fans are a pretty rational bunch.....for football fans.![]()

Sooo, when will we see the first club panic and buy a average player for mad money?
