2 unproven in the PL relatively cheap CB's though. That doesn't mean they won't be good enough over here but increases the risk factor. I've never seen your new keeper so can't comment on him
god doesn't memory play tricks on you when you get to my age. I have these vivid hallucinations of seeing Henderson being a vital part of a midfield that finished second. must be the alzheimers kicking in
I'd not seen any of the trio. I don't watch friendlies so I'm still to see the two injured parties too. However, they were all signed from the German league by our German manager.
Henderson played a decent role off the ball and making good runs into the box. But he's not a midfield general, he's not a captain, he's not a playmaker, not great defensively and offers little on the ball. In order for him to thrive, he needs a playmaker behind him and a ball winner next to him.
Matip is a big tall lad who's a free with CL experience. his history of games played for shalke however is mixed suggesting this ankle thing is one reason why his club didn't fight that hard to retain him. but at 6' 5" he should be an improvement if we set up right and use that height. His track record is half decent and has the credentials in europe. Klavan with respect to him is martin skertl in a cheap guise. he's a puller and dragger and that's just that. Karius looks half decent. he's made literally ONE SAVE, ONE... he's not been put under and aerial threat for us. all he's had to do was pass it about at the back in preseason... nobody can tell if he's the answer there yet. He looked ok thus far but until he gets a roughing up the question will be there. LFC need to say ok.. karius clyne matip can mane origi thats 6 players.. the rest? **** it they could be playing in the championship if their agents has moved them a different way. Firmino frankly looks like he pigged out all summer and has zero hunger to get going this season. all preseason he's looked this way. I am not impressed by that attitude AT ALL. we desperately need a LB and a CM. everyone knows it.
You were saying we needed about eight players before the weekend. After losing 2-0 to burnley you now think five will do it. How's that work?
we don't have enough time to get 8 do we Plus i'm making do with whats there. I said before weekend... mane and origi are the only two i'd play so that means 9 players. I said MAYBE to matip, can and clyne. I can see us going to spurs... running about madly cos they are a big side... winning the game then coming to the grand opening of anfield and seeing Leicester sit deep and hit us on the break for another loss... Its mad.
Depends on what your idea of low expectations are? As in whether your looking at this transfer window alone and whether your just looking at this season alone for your expectations.
Nope I'm grand too ...always someone gets beaten by the newbies in first couple of weeks...it was us this time. Said it was a 3 year plan when he came and will stick to that rather than start this panicky nonsense of "now it's his team" like it's the finished article after 6 pre season and 2 league games. 36 more games to go and I'm still confident we'll get a good result in most of them!
To be fair, Klopp is a developer so we need to let him develop. Doesn't stop us wanting obvious gaps filled though and being frustrated when they're not
Unless he makes you more solid you'll continue to be the sort of side who can wallop someone when it all clicks in the final third - like last week And be beaten by a poor side due to defensively frailties - like this week His tactics don't appear to have solidity as a key factor, much like his Dortmund side, which is why they were always good value to watch in fairness.
Agreed. He made clear his method and it's not to buy a finished team it's to make one. As you say that takes time. I'm frustrated too but since I believed last seasons players were known for their inconsistency I didn't really expect that to change dramatically over the summer. So I wasn't surprised to see lots of posession and no penetration raise its ugly head once again against a solid defensive team. It'll take time to see if he can develop those players to any level higher than they have shown. I think any players not brought in by Klopp have one more season to prove themselves. A whole year with no Europe under his methods. If they can't do it they'll be moved on. To me that's every squad player in our front 5 not bought this summer. As for transfers. Like all our managers I'll trust what he says to start with. If he doesn't bring someone in to fill obvious gaps then he has to believe the players available to buy aren't what he needs and there's no point in continuing our previous habit of replacing mediocre with mediocre...just to fill a hole. If after 3 years we are no further forward? Well then he becomes another ex Liverpool manager.
Maybe mate, but I predicted that before a ball was kicked and after 2 games highlighting exactly that point, I'm enjoying the self gratification
