if they needed a load of old wind, we could have sent Fats and ISIRTP there. They been generating galaxies of it for a couple of days now...
Should be a more interesting day (from GB's point of view) in taekwondo, boxing, and triathlon just to name three.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/rio-2016/medals/sports/swimming#swimming Interesting table of medal success in each event. Not surprisingly we are top in cycling and rowing, but so good to see us second in gymnastics (a brilliant turn around in an event we used to be so poor in). Strange to see Australia fall away so much in cycling....only a few years back, they were our rivals.
The guilty guys are the authorities not Gatlin. All he has done is play by the book, bend the rules, served his bans, and had them reduced so the fault doesn't really lie with him. The people who really deserve your angst are the authorities for allowing him to participate again. As for the Russians it is I suspect deeply embedded in their culture and in their view PEDs are taken to perform better and not seen as cheating. 3 years ago I was teaching English in Yekaterinburg. One of the teachers was a former weightlifter. He suffered an injury and so ceased competition, with the resulting loss of bulk. During my time there he was talking his medicine again to resume competing again. Look at Sharapova who was taking medication that was legal until the start of the year. I am sure she was not taking the stuff to gain an advantage over an opponent. As we saw, she was blitzed by Queen Serena. So that is the mindset to overcome. How the Russians will deal with it, I don't know. But with squeaky clean Seb Coe, I suspect a blanket ban for the Russians and other nations who fall foul of Saint Seb!!!
Coe will always be a hero to me. Out of nowhere, we had Coe, Ovett and a little later Cram. For a brief time we ruled the world in 800 and 1500m...Coe and Ovett were just swapping world records. What we wouldn't do to be that good again.
Badminton on BBC4. Ridiculously fast. Brits going well against the Chinese. Won first set in bronze match.
Jade Jones (defending Olympic Champion) went through well in her first match in taekwondo. Brownlee brothers about to set off in triathlon.
The boxer Conlan felt cheated when he lost his last bout to a Russian. To add insult to injury, the Russian has had to pull out of the next round and keeps his bronze.
Interesting fact for you, a shuttlecock is the fastest moving object in world sport excluding shooting.
