Redmond is being used as a striker ( so we 4 strikers). The guy we are hopefully bringing in will replace Mane. So they have been replaced.
While we're on the discussion of replacements Hojgberg is hardly the same type of midfielder as Vic. Not moaning just an observation. Though we'd be pretty light there should Romeu pick up an injury.
Have we seriously no idea who the new guy is? Quite something the way we go about our business. Now, I'm not on Twitter or Facebook, but someone must know how to let that Sullivan Jr what's what
Sorry, but while i like both players remond and austin in no way offer what pelle did. Not replacements at all. And austin needs to be playing if we want to see the real charlie austin despite his heroics at OT he is a confidence player; if we bought him to compete in a squad forget it we will get nothing from him. He needs to start like pelle always did although you won't get the same level of hold up play quality Sent from my SM-N910F using Tapatalk
We didn't want another Pelle. We have 4 strikers for two places. So we have replaced him, whether you think we haven't or not.
To my mind, Austin has filled a hole in the squad (that of a goal poacher - we haven't really had that since Sharp) whilst Redmond has filled another hole in the squad (that of a winger - we haven't really had that since Chamberlain). Neither are replacements for Pelle or Mane. Similarly PEH, in relation to Wanyama (for me, he's more of an upgrade on Davis). But that's not to say that necessarily need to replace Pelle or Mane (I think we do, but that's by the by - it's not the point I am trying to make) or indeed Wanyama.. It might well be that we go forward with different holes in the squad, in part because of a different way of playing. We're not a money-bags who can have all variety of options covered. Just like we have lacked a right winger for many seasons, and a goalscoring CM for many more seasons, maybe this season it will be that lack height in attack and a brick wall in the middle of the park. But no, we have not replaced Pelle and Mane, and Wanyama. I am in total agreement with you there.
When we were playing all those long balls Saturday there was nobody to win those balls or someone to disrupt their CB's; we had not outlet; not disagreeing with your statement but we seem to be either lacking that option or we are not playing to the strengths of the forwards we have.
I'd say he was actually worth at least 2 Charlie Austin's, so was a steal even if it was just to strengthen the squad depth and give us a few different options
Back on topic, if Jose goes for **** loads of cash, then we can replace him with someone else...we march on, even if Jose doesn't.
I personally don't think Fonte will leave. But if you said to me now that come 1 September, we'd have lost Fonte but replaced him with someone of Virgil or Toby's level (or, yes, Lovren's when he was with us), then I would absolutely be fine with that. But then again, Virgil's and Toby's don't just grow on trees.
Fans need to realise that when you "replace" a player, it doesn't always mean buying someone out of the same mould.
As I said above, you don't necessarily "replace" from the same mould. Without being rude, it's a little naive to think that is what happens. . And Ps. Pelle wasn't that good at hold up play anyway....
There'll be a few classy centre backs around after all the chopping and changing the top teams are doing. It may sound a bit sacrilegious, but I don't think Jose is the player he was, and he's not a match winner, just a good centre back. I like the guy for everything he's given Saints, but he's not God and will be replaced if need be. The replacement might not be at Jose's level immediately, but then again, neither was Jose
