Carter makes his debut in our biggest CC game since our last visit here, in the final round of matches last season. Win it, and we'll be back in the hunt. Lose it, and D2 it will be. We've won the toss and will bat, so no having to bat against Tahir last.
Well no-one can complain about our RR this time. Been going a long at 4 per over all innings so far. But on the flip side, we're 2 down this time rather than 0 down. Looks like Notts made the right call going with Wood rather than Fletcher.
Hales, Ballance and Vince aren't good enough for international cricket. Our weak batting has costed us this test series.
*Management quickly try to find a former Somerset bowler, a former Surrey bowler, a former Yorkshire bowler and a former Durham bowler*
Indeed. Although with Ervine due back fit for our next game, it'll be interesting which batter makes way for the return of both of them (a bowler, most likely Wheal, will be one to make way - three seamers, two spinners, plus Slug in sufficient bowling in terms of quantity).
I think Vince has to be dropped by England now. Ballance might get on the winter tours but his place is in danger too. Hales has shown a bit of something but I'm not convinced he's an opener. We're not exactly flush with batting options right now so I might be tempted to move Hales down to 5 and see how he goes there.
Obviously the seamers have done a great job for us so far this season, so it's entirely logical that we've persisted with them, but we've seen when Lumb was with us that he's not comfortable playing spin. Fantastic session for us even if we don't take another wicket, but if we could just nip out Lumb or Samit before lunch would be fantastic.
