One conspiracy theory quite popular in America right now given the situation is gun control. Personally, I think the idea of inalienable constitutional rights to be pretty spooky, especially considering they were created by the Founding Fathers, who themselves were in a position of authority and power to legislate following the Revolution. That being said though, I do think the idea of gun control is quite statist and some American gun-owners have cause for worry depending on how the election goes. This particular conspiracy theory is mostly held by right-wing libertarian gun nuts. The main group of people in the US in favour of gun control are 'liberals' and 'progressives' (I use quotation marks because they're not really liberal in a classical sense) who are all for certain freedoms, such as people of the same sex having the right to marry, the right for men and women to be paid equally, the right to equal opportunity regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender or sexuality, but at the same time oppose certain freedoms and actively want their government to ban and enforce restrictions on things they don't like, such as guns and free speech. You can't deny that countries with gun controls have far fewer gun-related deaths than countries such as the US but the UK's knife crime makes up for our lack of gun crime. Our knife crime is also more disproportionate than the US' gun crime - gun crime in the US in 2015 accounted for 0.01% of the population whereas knife crime in the UK accounted for 0.04% of the population. I don't think the problem is with gun ownership, I think the problem is with how militarised American society is, including law enforcement and civilian population. Successive US governments, whether Democrat or Republican, have supported the military-industrial complex, meaning large weapons-manufacturers have received subsidies and tax breaks. More weapons produced means more legal weapons in gun stores and more illegal ones on the street. Break the military-industrial complex and you have fewer weapons in the US without infringing second amendment rights, ultimately reducing gun crime, especially massacres where assault rifles are used.
An engineer called Maurice Cotterill has a theory , which seems to make sense from a lay point of view. I'll try and summarise. The classical (Rutherfords?) atom design is wrong. Electrons are tumbling coils around the nucleus. The coils while tumbling alternate between being electrical and being magnetic. In doing so they emit an electro magnetic wave. If I'm not mistaken gravity waves have been discovered. Waves from body A and waves from body B interlace , like corkscrews and attract each other. Hence gravitational pull. He also says when the classical view comes across a problem like why don't the protons in an atom repell each other, they just make something up and say 'well there must be a special glue holding the nucleus together , let's call them gluons'. Any view on his theory ?
Colleagues of mine who specialise in similar subatomic fields (which I, myself, do not) pour scorn on these ideas. Personally, I envision an 'electron', not as a point, but possibly more like a spherical shell centered on the nucleus. An important detail to note is that 'Waves' are emitted when something (at a 'source' of some kind) changes in some type of cyclic fashion. A single discrete change at the source would produce only a traveling discontinuity in the field (analogous to a 'shock discontinuity in aerodynamics). One possible example of this would be a sudden shift in the location of a gravitating source, but note that the scientific jury is actually 'out' on the possibility of gravitational waves. Many leading scientists agree that Modern Physics is currently in a parlous state, largely due to an (understandable, but unethical) tendency for individuals and groups to deny most new theories in an attempt to protect reputations, careers, grants, etc. It is a fact that much of the best new work is being done outside of the major institutions. Much of this work is being undertaken in the UK, despite major obstacles being placed in their way by the Standard-Model Establishment. I expect several major announcements to be made in the next few (2 or 3) years regarding, in particular, New Energy and New Propulsion.
Perfect , thanks for the reply particularly highlighting careers and reputations built 'traditional' physics which in time may prove erroneous. It's a shame the scientific establishment can't hold their hands up and say 'we got some of it wrong'. I wonder if more progress could have been made in areas like medicine had this been the case.
I agree. It would be interesting for all of your adoring fans to see the offending post, just to show that it's not yet another example of your made-up nonsense attempting to vilify someone who's actually had the audacity to say something that could be deemed negative about the board's self-appointed leader. Thank you, great Dalai.
Ah, but don't forget, the illuminati fund the universities, so our politicians, scientists, journalists etc already have their thoughts processed. It's not a big leap after that to see the process where additives in food create illnesses for science to discover a cure that the drug industry can sell a remedy for and the media can 'report' on.
