I think we will have a good balance in defence once Smalling comes back. Blind is going to be one of these utility players filling in along the back to cover injuries. Valencia will benefit enormously from being allowed to belt up the wing, he is strong and fit but was held back by Lvg's stupid reluctance to let our backs fly last season. Valencia, Bailly, Smalling and Shaw looks a very strong unit.

Personally I think Darmian should be given a run at right back. If he doesn't cut it then go for Fosu Mensah.

Tbf if he's a success you have to hand it to Jose. If there's one thing you can have confidence in, it's his ability to spot a good defender and develop them into great defenders.
