Beefy. as one famous ex-motorcycle racer once said, it's not a knitting competition. Cycle racing can be dangerous and often is. ;)
BBC analysts are tearing into the organisers of the cycling track. They did an overview of the track before the games began and spotted a number of dangerous areas but did nothing to remedy the problems.

I would rather go with people that know about cycling.

Sorry TSS, I just don't think a fancy little wink is in good taste when commenting on this. That poor lady looked to be in a bad way.

No it's not a knitting competition, but clearly that poor lady was not going too fast. She wasn't in a group of people either.

Fair enough. You will never make races entirely safe. As soon as you do that someone will go faster to make the courses dangerous again. It's human nature. Somewhere along the line the competitor has to balance out what is dangerous and what they can go for. Vleuten, for example, was going far too fast. Absolutely no need for that speed, but she made a mistake.

I know the point you're trying to get me to understand, and I do, but some responsibility must be with the rider.

TSS, did you actually see it?

Yes, I saw it live and shouted oh f***. She was going far too fast for the course, seeing as the rain had fallen. It was probably greasy, due to trees cover overhead, and she braked hard, making her front wheel lose grip, then it grabbed the tarmac and the back end swung round. Over the top she went into the gutter. She wasn't going to make the bend in my opinion. Believe me, as a motorcyclist and cyclist of many years, I know my road conditions.

Incidentally, if you're watching live on PC, you can go back to the moment.

EDIT: Actually, I've just done what I suggested and gone back and looked again. Amazed that I remembered the crash as well as I did. Vleuten landed face forward, which looked bad. Hopefully, she wasn't too badly off. She certainly did the relaxed rag doll landing, as one should, and ended up in an upside down sitting position.

We saw it on live on Eurosport.......nasty crash :( ... then showed closing stages of the race then straight to the football without reference to the crash.....the organisers new it was bad.
