If Smith is too injured to bat (he injured himself bowling, but was fine to open in the first innings - so I wonder if this is just Lancs letting him put his feet up, and that he'll be fine to bat if required. But maybe it is more than that), then I could just about to agree with you.

But assuming we do still need 8 wickets, I really can't see it. If only we had Broad, Jimmy, Woakes and Finn.

I'm assuming the pitch is turning though with Dawson and Crane picking up wickets. It's unlikely I know but cricket is a strange sport at times.
 
Livingstone certainly isn't known for his ability to block it.

Middlesex doing a good job now. Surrey no doubt getting frustrated.

It's probably just a case of delaying the inevitable, but yes we couldn't have asked of any more from Middlesex today.

A trip to Trent Bridge next up for us. Pretty much nailed on that the loser, if there is one, will be going down. It'll be very interesting what sort of pitch Notts prepare on that basis. It's not quite a must-win for either side (although it's very close!), but it is certainly a must-not-lose for both sides. One old friend in Bailey helping us this week, one old friend in Tahir to send us down next week?

Somerset showing what some wins can do for you though. Three wins and a draw (against us) in their last five games, and they go from deep in trouble to 2nd place. Hell, Surrey are just 16 points from 2nd.

Surrey won't go down this season. Probably more frustrating for Middlesex as they needed a win to stretch their lead at the top. Critical match coming up against Durham. IMO, Middlesex lack a class spinner.
