I bet if Phelan was giving the Job people on here would be saying we have taken the cheap option no ambition etc
Experience of being a manager. Phelan has always been in the background and I don't believe all good assistants/coaches make good managers.
These owners know little about football but they are not thick. They must have been prepared for Steve Bruce to walk all last season, seeing how he offered to go when the relegation happened. Okay, they got Bruce to stay, but they cannot have been confident of his commitment, and rightly so, as Bruce has walked. In this scenario the Allams have had ages to prepare for Bruce's departure, and I don't believe for a nanosecond that they were surprised when he went. And now we have this pantomime with Martinez, Coleman, Zola, Old Uncle Tom Cobley and all. If the Allams were interested in making a go of it again in the Premier League, they'd have had a replacement in ages ago. Then there is the saga of selling the club. He'd sell tomorrow to the right owners, Isn't that what he once said? But he ends up quibbling over six million. Nobody can be this incompetent. Any old Tom, Dick or Harry could have done better. With the new season just a week away, no replacement for Bruce, no signings, players leaving, an injury list as long as a wet week, hell, it leaves me thinking the owners intend stripping all the cash they can out of the club and letting it sink.
I agree. I do feel sorry for Phelan at the moment, he is the only one said to want the job, he is in situ, care taking, good pre season, yet on a daily basis different names being announced and flaunted in front of him, he doesn't appear to be 1st, 2nd or even 3rd choice, but is still maintaining his dignity and saying nowt (although probably been told to say nowt by Dumb & Dumber.). Just wondering if after all this treatment of him and the goings ons, if he is offered will he have the last laugh and stick two fingers up to them by declining?!!
We need to sign 6-8 players at least. It's easier if you have a manager that can attract those players and 'sell' the club. Personally, I think Zola or Coleman would be able to do that. Phelan isn't as well known and might struggle with that aspect. Don't underestimate the 'pull' of a well respected manager (like SB). Without him we'd have never tempted players like Hudd, Livermore, Dawson, Diame in the first place. Steve Bruce has been the most important element of Hull City in the last 4 years, as we're about to find out in the next 6 months or so.
This is more or less correct i think. Apart from the expecting Bruce to leave bit. Ehab has been brought up in a priviledged lifestyle where everyone that works for him and his dad just do as theyre told and carry on. His arrogance probably didnt prepare for it.
Main problem with Phelan is that, if appointed, the regime will probably allocate him breadline funds, whereas, you'd surely speculate that Coleman or Zola would get a wedge to invest.
I think the £5 was no longer his once he's paid the bookies. If he doesn't win, he doesn't get his £5 back.
Coleman and Zola would only take the job if they had assurances of agreed transfer kitty. And if the owners then reneged on that agreement I'd expect either one of them would walk.
