I am gutted that he is moving on, I wonder whether we could have squeezed a bit more out of them as they are in a bit of a dodgy place with stones leaving, but I accept that Ash was going to leave or have to be replaced one day. So the time has come, we have to hope that when we replace we do so with a leader who is combative and very physical, similar to Ash. Am I confident that our board can get someone in 3 weeks no I am not, when you look how long the fiasco has gone on in trying to sign a striker I fear it maybe a panic buy. Its just a shame he is going when the squad is in disarray and our board are a ****ing shambles. still lets see. weren't we linked earlier in the window to the Blackburn RofI centre half, Shane Duffy.

James Chester <whistle>

I just don't think he is strong enough and gets bullied a bit for me, good player and would like him as cover, but he isn't a replacement for Ash, just my opinion mind Valley.

Agree. I think Amat is ready, and I'd take Chester as a replacement at £3-£5 million.

I wouldn't mind us looking for a tough defender from the Championship too.

Swan, we will have no choice but to go with Amat and Fernandez, that is all we have in terms of any experience, We still need to sign another centre half in his prime if Ash goes. we just cant keep on with this (and I am not having a go at you) MAKE DO attitude that the club seems to have.

Valley that exactly what Shame Duffy is and would be a tidy signing IMO, for the right price

I think Amat & Fernandez could be a decent combination.

However, what if one gets injured?

We need to invest in a replacement in case Ash does go.

We have been linked with Callum Chambers - who is more a centre back than a right back as Montero demonstrated .....

But is he good enough?

You need to speak to Jager on here, he's sure Ash wants out, mind he's in the minority, ask him for his 'Minority report' should be interesting.........<laugh>

I want him to stay, but being pragmatic I realise that a deal which is about £11m is a good for the club, and if he does want to go then the deal will be good for him. Remember now it's him signing a contract and not our club. All things comes to an end, and if not this year then surely next with him.

But he wasn't starting games, and you already had a world class keeper there and went out and bought Begovic, who is also a class keeper.
We are very lucky that we've got Federico Fernandez and Jordi Amat, but our next CB is a £2 million Ajax flop.

I like you are saying he's a £2m flop, yet you want a £28m flop back at our club, a little ironic I think.

I don't think we would get 15-20 million for him now because of his age so better to get 10/11 million for him now and hopefully invest in a younger player than get nothing in 12/18 months time. Also he deserves a decent deal after his service to us and I have no axe to grind about him leaving on that score

fee

His replacement is Van der Hoorn, I have that on very good authority...............<ok>

I don't think he is mate, just gone backwards since joining Arsenal and that's no surprise, considering how poor they are defensively.

Roof 3 centre halves is not enough and the little I have seen of Van de Hoorn, I don't think he is anywhere near ready for the pl and I would think Guidolin has seen that in the limited time he has been getting, but we may have no choice but to play him. Before you jump down my throat I am not saying he wont be good enough, just don't think he Is at the moment.

That is us in trouble then and I must apologise to roof, looks like you were right. I also think the swans should apologise to the fans going in to the season with 3 centre halves, 1 being totally untested in the Pl, what happens if one gets injured, we go in to a game with no cover there, I am going to have a fiver on us to go down at least it will soften the blow when it does happen, because the way it is going we must be odds on. ****ing pathetic

My views exactly TLF

We need a "replacement" for Ash and we need to see how Van de Hoorn develops

I know what you're saying TLF but I do think that Amat will be the one that will replace Ash in the squad.

He wasn't good enough to play in the powerhouse that is the Dutch league. We all knew that Bony would be a disaster at Man City, not because his ability is poor but because Auguero was always going to be playing.

Had Bony gone to, say Arsenal, he'd have been a huge success.
Bony is proven in this league, Van Der Hoorne (think that's his name) is not even proven in Holland and as of now, he's our only CB if Fed or Amat get injured etc.

Of course all things come to an end, no one lives forever, but how you handle the transition in key positions such as 'Striker' 'Captain & CB' defines your credibility and security of performance on the field, Huw was once a champion race horse, but I'm afraid he looks more like your average Greek Donkey, with too many days in the sun.........<laugh>
