The way I see it is that our squad is weaker with Ash gone. £11M won't buy you much the way the market is today. Yes Ash is replaceable but really hard to replace for £11M especially looking at the previous signings the club has made.
I gather Ivor used to post on here and BBC, I can't remember him crying so much, but there you go I guess! Huw ain't going anywhere, he is a fantastic chairman that other clubs fans wished he was in charge there. For me Huw will stay, and the cry babies will cry, and they still won't be able to come up with somebody credible to replace him!
I don't think we would get 15-20 million for him now because of his age so better to get 10/11 million for him now and hopefully invest in a younger player than get nothing in 12/18 months time. Also he deserves a decent deal after his service to us and I have no axe to grind about him leaving on that score. fee
http://www.itv.com/news/update/2016-08-02/swansea-midfielder-sigursson-signs-new-deal/ thank god for that
Might be wishful thinking to get an EXACT replacement for 11m yes. But if we were to spend 15M on someone who is approaching 29/30 with promise then its money well spent (and achieved from the sale of Ash)
But you guys are willing to spend 15m on Ulloa who is Leicesters 4th striker and 30!. Think you could have squeezed everton for a bit more as they are desperate, need to replace stones and its getting to the end of the transfer window. Even James tomkins went for 10m!
I have no problem with Ash wanting to go for higher wages. The problem I have is that the club seem too quick to sell players without securing players the other way. We escaped relegation last season and now we're entering a new one with a depleted and weaker team. The players we are linked with are not good enough IMO Crouch - too old and way past it Ulloa - not good enough but ok as a second option anything over £7M is ridiculous Llorente - seems like he doesn't want to come to us and past his best Chadli - Ideal replacement if Ayew goes I know there is time left in the transfer window but also don't underestimate how important an away win is against a promoted club
Just saw it, been out for a while. Thankfully I bought some beer, so I will raise a glass to him tonight, or is it too early to start now?
No I'm not expecting a direct replacement for 11M I do understand that things are not that simple. Answer me this do you think our defence is stronger or weaker with ash gone? its a simple question. Also what £15M pound players are there that will strengthen our squad? players of that calibre are going for ridiculous money this season. The only hope we have is to look abroad for an unproven and ambitious player. Look how that turned out last season.
Williams has been a massively loyal player and deserves to go to finish his career elsewhere if he wishes . 11 million is a fair price and the club respected his wishes and wasn't about to bicker . Good on Williams and the club
Without Ash, it is weaker 100% ....but if we get a replacement who knows? I can't answer if we will be stronger or not, nobody can. Unproven and ambitious has to be the way most clubs our size do deals as we cannot spend 25m+ on a single player It worked with chico, michu, bony, bodde etc so why can't it work again? It's a simple question
That is absolutely true and we did the same with Petr Cech at chelsea when we let him go to Arsenal for a pittance. However, it was clearly known Cech wanted to leave for first team football. Now no one i believe knows the ins and outs of Williams and whether he wants to leave or not or even if he doesn't mind. My impression is that this is more of a Swansea think its a good time to cash in rather than a Williams wants a final payday move.
Swansea , as a general rule , are very respectful toward players and managers who have treated the club with respect . A good example is when Martinez left for Wigan. When rumours started that Wigan were interested in Roberto , Jenkin's downplayed them and said he was going nowhere ...until Martinez said one comment in the media about Huw keeping his " Private " word and Martinez was cut loose without another word from the club .
I am gutted that he is moving on, I wonder whether we could have squeezed a bit more out of them as they are in a bit of a dodgy place with stones leaving, but I accept that Ash was going to leave or have to be replaced one day. So the time has come, we have to hope that when we replace we do so with a leader who is combative and very physical, similar to Ash. Am I confident that our board can get someone in 3 weeks no I am not, when you look how long the fiasco has gone on in trying to sign a striker I fear it maybe a panic buy. Its just a shame he is going when the squad is in disarray and our board are a ****ing shambles. still lets see. weren't we linked earlier in the window to the Blackburn RofI centre half, Shane Duffy.
You need to speak to Jager on here, he's sure Ash wants out, mind he's in the minority, ask him for his 'Minority report' should be interesting.........
But he wasn't starting games, and you already had a world class keeper there and went out and bought Begovic, who is also a class keeper. We are very lucky that we've got Federico Fernandez and Jordi Amat, but our next CB is a £2 million Ajax flop.
I think its time for Amat to step up for us now. I can't see us getting a replacement in that is better. Id say invest all the money in attackers
