Some of his passes were a bit off today. However, can't judge on one game...overall he's looking good.
U23s beat Fulham 1-0 today. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/arti...3s-report-southampton-1-0-fulham-3215488.aspx
First half, for me, we looked to be struggling in a lot of areas. Possession was poor. Ball control poor. Pushing the full backs so far forward means that the wider midfielders are having to drop very deep to take the ball off of the CBs or defensive midfielder, which in turn means the attacking players dropping deep to fill the gaps and provide a passing option. Missed the start of the second half, but would have liked to have seen Hesketh continue at the top of the diamond, rather than vacate it for Isgrove, who is surely on his last pre-season tour with Saints. Really missed seeing a midfielder running from deep, at pace, a la Mane .
I thought Yan Valery looked good, as did Reed. We do seem to be lacking in forward power though. Gallagher should surely have been more advanced than he actually played.
I will be quite happy if the headlines keep saying Saints won with a "lucky" goal by Charlie Austin, it is what he is noted for!
