And I respect your opinion , my only problem is there are Britton , Fer and Ki already fighting for 1 spot .Breaking our transfer record to throw a 4th player in the fight just isn't sound especially given our striker situation .
But it wouldn't be 4 players fighting for 1 spot. It would be 7 players fighting for 3.

You're wrongly assuming that Cork and Siggy will play every game (resting/injuries). And there will be injuries to others too, especially in the midfield combat zone. 7 midfielders capable of playing first team football in a team that usually uses 3 midfielders every game is about right in my opinion - especially if you want to be successful. Alright, 1 or 2 of them may be unhappy and leave at the season's end, and then you replace them with another with PL experience and the cycle starts again. I don't count Fulton at the same level, although he's an able body if the injury list extends that far.

But I agree - we have to sort out a couple of strikers sharpish.

It's all opinions and mine is Cork and Siggy are musts . Hell , Siggy might get traded for all we know .
But let's do it your way , we have 6 players to fill 3 positions ....do we want to break our transfer record to throw a 7th in the mix ...especially one that has just over 700 minutes played last season played for his present team and especially given our lacking up front ?
Another thing , I'll believe the Stoke bid when I see something official ....could very well be an end around to panic us into a matching bid .

I agree to an extent and also have Cork and Siggy in my first team too - but I know that while they'll play a lot, they won't play all games. They may get injured. They may need a break. My opinion is that Allen is better than our other 3 (Ki, Britton and Cork). While you say he only played 700 mins for Liverpool, he played 550 mins for Wales in the Euros...and made the Team of the Tournament. He's worth the money. I'd agree with you that if we were going for a player for £4-5 million with nothing going for them, then why add them in the mix? But we're talking about a high level football player here, better than what we have in many ways. I don't think it's adding a 7th player into the mix with Allen, it's actually purchasing the third shoe-in first teamer to play alongside Cork and Gylfi. That's our starting midfield three for the next 5 years if we're lucky. That's how I see it anyway.

I'm going to go put on a limb and say you meant ( Ki , Britton and Fer ) in brackets . Sound post and will search my thoughts on the subject .
I like Joe Allen and would love him at the club .He did score 4 goals for us the only season with us in the Premier .

Yeah, that's what I meant! Whoops - been a tough week!

5 years of averaging 10 place in the Premier and the only club to actually make money over those 5 years in net transfers is hard to walk past and has ruined me in the spending aspect of the club .
I guess there is a bit of luck involved and if we want to continue in the Premier for another 5 seasons , especially given the monies involved starting this season , we will have to up the ante in spending .
I'm so proud of what we have accomplished these past 5 seasons and with the resources we have accomplished it .Its a bit difficult to change my dinosaur ways I suppose so let the new owners " Show Us The Money " in the transfer market .

The moment Shelvey stopped playing , Britton started ... That's indisputable . And Britton played alongside Ki game after game . And along with the moment Britton started playing instead of Shelvey , Routledge started playing also and Ayew moved to the middle FACT . Fer came to us a few games after Ki was injured , plain and simple .

And what is also indisputable is that Leon was miles ahead of Ki in terms of quality and skillset. Joe Allen possesses these same qualities.
And I agree with Trunds, Fer was brought in to replace Jonjo.

A midfield 3 of Allen Cork and Siggy would have been superb then add to that chances with Ki and Fer that is good starters and great interchange.

Don't forget Leon. All of a sudden, we'd have quality to come off the bench/cover injuries/rotation for cup games etc.

Exactly how I see it. Shame the bellends in the suits can't see iot this way too.

We really need Joe more than ever now with the likelihood of Gylfi and Ayew not being with us much longer and we need a strong midfield for the coming season. The midfield players make up most of the squad and you cant have enough of them, they are the backbone of any club and usually a midfielder can play multiple positions which is good.....

Some more encouraging noises coming from the club now regarding Joe no? With Jenkins stating they can now "put in a bit more effort"!
I thought would get a few on here up in arms! I think he could definitely have worded that differently! I would love Joe back, and at the prices being banded about it would be a great deal.
p.s. I had no idea his Welsh was so good, I know he's a Narberth boy but was genuinely and happily suprised by his fluency during a few interviews during the Euros
