"Naturally we are aware of the intense media speculation this evening, however, at the present time Sam Allardyce remains Sunderland manager.

We share in the anger and frustration of our supporters and would like to assure them that we are working to conclude the matter in the best interests of Sunderland AFC."

Am I putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5 but that sounds like FA haven't agreed compensation with SAFC.

Think it's best that Sam just does a midnight flip.
Really don't need to hear what he has to say on the matter.
Good luck to the fella, right now him and the FA deserve each other.

Holding the ****ers to ransom. Could add to our transfer funds considerably and lets face it, we don't have the time to work on deals so need the money.

The way it was out n the BBC is that tomorrow, the FA will (formally) ask permission of the club to discuss terms with Sam.

All that's happened so far is that he's been interviewed. He hadn't been offered anything on any terms yet.

So 73, the issue isn't about Sunderland not agreeing compensation yet because he hasn't been offered the job yet.

Surely compensation has to be agreed with the club before they can offer him the job

Nope. No point in the FA going to the club to discuss terms until they've agreed terms with their man first. After all, he might say no.

That's like player agreeing personal term before the bid is accepted.

Besides, there's no point Big Sam agreeing terms if the FA won't match our price.

    This.

Have David Moyes in the background, directing Bain what players to bid for while we hold out for a good compensation package.

Sam is contracted to us for another year so we could say no, but that is in nobodies best interests. Some sort of release clause and fee will be needed, known only to those involved.

Either that or Sam resigns anyway, creek - paddle etc.

There were strong rumours that this was the case right back when he was first linked with the position. Not heard much about it since, mind.

Don't suppose we'll ever know for sure. Neither the club, Sam, or the FA have any reason to make it public one way or the other.

Well as the journos close to the club are mentioning compo packages I don't think it be the case that there's a clause. Anyway think these clauses are designed to allow the manager to be approached, not to flush money down the ****ter by voiding compo packages.

I'd have thought we'll get about 5m compo. 10m would be nice but feels unlikely.
