This is a great signing. Not just because it is a great signing, but because it clarifies the club's direction in that we are out to sign Europe's top young talent, not necessarily unearth hidden gems. This takes a lot of the risk out of the process and should reassure my fellow bedwetters somewhat.

On the slightly negative note, Reed seems to suggest we have enough young midfielders now - and I want another creative player. Oh well, perhaps he just means we are now going to get some similarly good young attackers!

I read it as in terms of CM/CDM we now have: Romeu, Clasie, Reed, Ward-Prowse, Davis, Hojbjerg.

5 year deal, great to see. Means we can keep him for a minimum of 3 years even if big clubs come in for him. Not sure why people saying he will be off in 2, clearly they don't quite understand how we do things but there you have it.

Not quite sure you understand. Saints could sell him next week if Man Utd bid £30m and his wages would be tripled. Player can go at anytime if the price is right and the player/agent feel they want to move on. Those facts have been demonstrated time and time again in recent years.

And don't quote the Schneiderlin case to me. He stayed for another year because at the time of his first hissy fit, Man Utd or Arsenal hadn't bid for him.

Think it was Spurs he wanted to go to.

Just to be clear, I am not being negative about the signing of this player that I had never heard of up to 2 days ago. I'm sure... *checks name*... Pierre (WTF?) will be great.

Or average.

Or awful.

Time will tell, as time tends to do.

Talking about the club and how it suits him. He also mentions speaking to Puel and liking his plans for the development of young players.

It's almost as if the manager of a club trying to persuade a player to join is telling him what he wants to hear... and then said player tells the club media department what they want to hear in order to pass it onto the supporters for them to hear what they want to hear.

Be nice to hear something original from a new signing. Maybe even brutally honest like "this was the best financial offer I received"

Without talking about Schneiderlin I will simply use Mane and Wanyama. Each of them stayed longer and then left when they had 2 and 1 year left. We don't NEED the money immediately, so we have the power to keep them until they have either 2 or 1 year left. Which is what we will continue to do. We wouldn't have sold Mane if Liverpool offered £35m last summer because we can hold out.

Are we saying that because no one has heard of him that he can't possibly be any good? That's possible I suppose?
