Sam has said many times he'd like to manage England so a statement of any sort wouldn't benefit anyone.

I don't think he will get it but if he does you can only wish him well.

The only uncertainty and momentum for Sam getting the England job, is happening on this board <laugh>

There`s nothing except gossip and speculation.

The statement I want to see is from the FA. At least we`ll know what`s going on. Expecting that incompetent bunch of nackers to get their heads out of their arses and actually do something is probably far too much to ask.

The issue is that this may well drag on and then if Sam does get it then it could well be that we've started the season, far from ideal.

Sam isn't a yes man, and is such it's incredibly unlikely he will be offered it.

MSN reporting Wenger not counting himself out but at Arsenal for another year. FA have said next manager doesn't necessarily have to be English and were talking of Southgate in as interim for up to a year. Am I putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5 or just looking through red and white specs?

I see alot of people saying this about the England managerial position and I really don't get it. To me, a "yes man" means someone who blindly and unquestioningly follows orders. What orders are the managers supposedly taking?

Is the implication that some suit at the FA is in fact picking the team, and the manager doesn't really have any input? Why would the FA even do that? What would they gain from it?

This is a genuine question, I don't understand which orders the "yes men" are supposedly following?

I firmly believe they are instructed to take players from certain clubs. I believe they don't have full control over selection and that's what I mean by this.

I heard down the local that Southgate had already ruled himself out as an interim.

Fair play although I can't see it myself. I just think that, in general, all England managers have been ****ing muppets <laugh>

I'll agree with that, apart from the 'instructed' comment, mate. I don't believe anybody from the FA directly instructs the manager what players we need to select. I'm not ruling out that the FA might lean on the manager a certain way, which will could influence his thinking ;) <whistle>

If he has made it known internally at club would be good but In my opinion an announcement to the wider press would stop unnecessary speculation & the rumor mill going in to overdrive

Shoehorning the 'stars' into teams even though they don't fit has been going on a very long time. The FA want the stars on the pitch, the FA wants certain players to be featuring for one reason only. To make money. To publicise, promote and endorse. All to make money.

Hmm, I get that to a certain extent. For worldwide "brand name" players like Rooney it could certainly be true. But a lot of the England team at the moment aren't exactly huge draws for publicity - "must shoehorn Dele Alli in, there's a million kids in China queueing up to buy his shirt", I can't see it.

Or am I looking at this from the wrong direction? Do you mean the players' agents are paying money to make sure they get selected to increase their own "brand" in the hopes they will eventually reach the level of stardom alluded to above?

I'm not sure what you want him to say?

"I've not heard anything about the England job yet but I'd jump at the opportunity if it came along" - doesn't really strengthen our hand in terms of transfer dealings, etc.

    or

"I've no interest in the England job whatsoever" - a complete lie, which only serves to make him look a **** if the offer does then come along and he, inevitably, takes it up.

The job we're talking about is managing the national team.

I don't doubt for a second Sam would love the job. But it would be both disrespectful to his club to make a statement (which is why he won't) and stupid for him to say anything which could prevent him getting the job.

I don't know what you expect him to say mate. Anything he could say would be problematical, all round.

    Statement ???

Statements mean absolutely nothing.... And if anything fuel further speculation <doh>

    Eg:
Chairman: "We are 100% behind the manager"
Result??? Manager sacked in morning !!!!

What will be will be... Let's just hope Sam is still at the helm next month looking over 5 great signings:1980_boogie_down:

    I think this is right.

There`s nothing really Sam can do atm. I expect him to be getting on with the job of getting us ready for next season until as/if/when he is asked to take over. Until then nothing has changed.
