Good signing. Impressed with Redmond when ive seen him playing against Saints in the past - young, talented and English so well made up. He will know Ward-Prowse and Targett too reasonably well too.

Curious whether Puel's tactics will change. Per the article posted by Fran in the other thread, he didn't really use conventional wide players last year, preferring a mixture of 3-5-2 and a 4-4-2 diamond. Signing Redmond suggests that we're still planning to build around one-striker formats.

Unless we're going to try and turn him into a central forward player who plays off the shoulder, uses his pace to get in on goal and finishes.

I don't think we will, but can see why it could be worth a try.

Possibly, though I'd see his future value as being greater in wide areas. He's a good striker of the ball and has had a good cross on him in the past; he's a rather poor finisher around the box, however, and could stand to pass more and shoot less at times. Still plenty of time for that to change, but I don't know if using him in that role would play to his strengths.

Very good news now it's official!

Already heard people moaning about this though, in that it shows how much (and too much) influence Les Reed has at the club, and that it's putting prospective managers off. My counter argument was simply that Redmond will have been signed with the blessing of who is probably going to be our new manager.

We can't just sit back and wait for the new man...there would be no guarantee that the players he fancied would be available or want to come here. Perfectly reasonable to try and get players in that we have tracked who will fill the gaps in our squad. The new man may have more influence in the January window....if we need anyone then.

Agree. Claude will probably be happy to see his new club going and buying an England U21 international with PL experience and potential.

I think we will just have some flexibility.

Impressive interview, I know they're pretty much fed what to say to a certain degree, but I got a very good vibe from him in terms of his attitude.
He sounds like he appreciates what an opportunity being at saints is and the chance he will have to develop his game.

He let slip his personal ambition to be playing champions league football eventually and following in the footsteps of other players who have made that move.

Hopefully in a couple of summers we will be fighting off £30m plus bids
