Can we start talking about what we want to happen next? This argument is going to lead to more acrimony. We are all Saints fans here, not political adversaries.

The music was good. And the fashions were a laugh. But the constant power cuts, three day week, casual racism, inflation at 25%, fuel rationing and wage freezes were a bit ****, as I recall.

No - from what I read before the votes were in was that it was a stitch up and already decided. Therefore I reckon that should the vote have been to remain there would have been a lot of public disorder.
I still cannot believe that intelligent people can have been so stupid to have been taken in by the lies and rhetoric of the leave campaign (and my son was one of them). I just hope that when we go through the financial **** up that's coming, that they remember what they did
I'm posting no more - I'm too busy enjoying my time in France. Might by the last time ....

So what does happen next? Did Cameron put a timeline on his tenure?
Can his replacement be forced into a general election, or does the country have to just accept who is selected by their party as the new PM?
Any indication on the length of time to come out or is that a negotiable period?

Cameron due to go by October before the conference.
On the face of it there is no need for an election as we have voted the party in and not David Cameron. So yes like with Gordon Brown we just accept who they choose.
Two years from invoking acticle 50 which will probably be when the new PM is chosen. Possibly longer if the EU agrees.

Hmm. UK joins Common Market in January 1973......Three day week and power cuts in 1974. Inflation hits 25% peak in 1975. 1976 Labour government goes to IMF for bail-out. Winter of Discontent 1978 leading to Thatcher government.

So, whether the EU was a relevant factor or not, the dreadful memories of stagnating Britain were all from a time AFTER we joined.

Just replying to show I've read it, Beef. I can hardly say I like a post like that, can I. The working class have tugged their forelocks and handed back all their hard won civil rights, backed by the EU, to the right wing of the Tory Party. Yes, our masters obviously know better than us, because we've told them so. Christ, it's shameful.
