Klinsmann would not be my pick, but I'd be willing to give him a shot. Don't trust US soccer fans views on Klinsmann, they have delusions of grandeur... which admittedly is not helped by JK. Basically, Klinsmann promised exciting, European-style football and has completely failed to deliver. So whenever the US loses, he gets a ton of heat. OTOH, we were never going to beat Argentina. You guys have all seen Geoff Cameron play for Stoke. He is probably our best defender. Do you really think he is going to stop Lionel Messi? Or that an aging Clint Dempsey is going to be able to match Messi goal for goal on the other end? People blame him for misusing Yedlin, but he hasn't done much with Tottenham either, and is likely on his way out. I mean, he's really fast. He's young, he looks like he's got some potential. He showed some good quality when he got that loan to Sunderland. He might end up being okay. But again, we're talking about him vs. Lionel freaking Messi. Klinsmann is a victim of the high expectations he set. Supposedly we had/have lots of young superstar talent that just needs to be molded a forward-thinking manager who will break us out of our underdog-type play. But the reality is, we don't. We're talking about a domestic league where Bradley Wright-Phillips breaks all the scoring records. The quality is just not there. When the US played Columbia, Klinsmann played the exact formation and lineup that everyone had been demanding he play for ages. And we still lost 2-0, not looking particularly impressive. It would help if Klinsmann were a little more honest and just said "Look, we kind of suck. What do you expect?" But instead he says stuff like player's attitudes aren't right and they get intimidated and whatnot and we can totally beat these guys. It would also help if the US weren't paying him ridiculous amounts of money. Still, if you actually look at the results, the US did well in Copa America to get to the semifinals. We did well in the World Cup. We just didn't play with a whole ton of style, though we did for the most part play fundamentally sound. The US has not advanced on the world stage as much as people would like, but is that Klinsmann's fault? You aren't seeing a whole lot of Americans tearing it up in the PL or elsewhere in Europe, so why do people think that Klinsmann is the one who is holding the US back?
Why I only bet on stuff I know or the odd low bet on where Saints finish etc. I was up over a grand last year and about the same the year before that.
What doesn't make sense is that MP hasn't turned down our offer yet has he? So why would we instal JK without MP decision not yet made.
Sure beefy, sometimes that does happen, and the betting has for now slowed at the price he is currently trading. I have by no means said he has the job, and sometimes on next manager markets the prices can over-react a little as bookmakers look to protect themselves against being stung on inside information. Anything is possible (including Leicester winning last year's PL apparently), however, I believe based on my past experience that it is more likely than not that this market move on JK is because he has at least become a runner on a shortlist, where before he was not. I'm not going to over-egg it c. 75-80% confident in that at least.
I don't understand why Saints would think Klinsmann was a better choice than Pellegrini unless we have made a deal with Spurs to train up their managers for them.
Wrong!!!!! The correct answer is, "Pellegrini, because my mate has told me he's in Les' office right now signing a contract."
Putting aside several "if's" wouldn't klinsmann be straight off to spurs at the first opportunity; hardly something we want to be repeating
Don't panic. It might be simply that we've interviewed three, will interview another three and find the one we want. Pellegrini may have other offers that are bigger than ours.
Haven't really been in here, is Pellegrini actually happening? If it is then...ok...I will have to go back and edit some posts where I slated him though.
Uninspiring in large parts at Man City but has been excellent everywhere else, including Real Madrid where he set their highest points record but missed out to an incredible Barcelona team. It'd be a really exciting appointment for a club like us, where he could have the kind of success he did with Villareal & Malaga.
I don't think that Fraser was going anywhere, whether Watson stayed or went - he's just signed a new 5 year contract for goodness sake!
