Like I said, peanuts.
One year remaining obviously has a massive effect, but where did we start negotiations.....£8M, 9, it just seems too bloody low considering 12 months ago we were so annoyed with Tottenhams behaviour that we said we didn't want to do any business with them (along with wba).
I'm really surprised we folded so early, I don't want a disruptive influence anywhere near our squad, but I'm confident we could have got more if we held firm.
£11M - 20% = PEANUTS <grr>

Just out of interest how many game did we lose last season without Wanyama playing?

Vic would most likely kick up a fuss if he thought we were blocking his move, then you have a disruptive player in the dressing room for the Summer who doesn't intend on being here. Or we keep him until Jan, and he goes for £4-5 million. Just move him on, say our thanks, and get his replacement in.

If there's a bright side, it's that we seem to have realized that once a player gets to the final couple years of their contract, the odds aren't great that you'll be able to re-sign them for anything less than top dollar. Still have a bunch of players that we need to tie down for a longer term, but if we can accomplish some of that this summer, then perhaps this will be the last mass sell-off.

Unless of course, like Wanyama, they won't sign new deals.

Sure; they have more incentive to do so if they already have 3-4 years remaining on the deal though, and it at least gives you sufficient time to bargain over a new deal and recoup full value if they won't sign.

From the Cortese/Poch era...

XI: Boruc; Clyne, Fonte, Lovren, Shaw; Schneiderlin, Wanyama; S. Davis, Lallana, Rodriguez; Lambert.

BENCH: K. Davis*, Chambers, Yoshida, Hooiveld, Cork, Do Prado, Gallagher.

* - not counting Kelvin as he's no longer on the playing staff

Wanyama has been restless for a while and was entering the last year of his contract. I suspect he was virtually promised he could go this season if he settled down last season....though we may have hoped he would want to stay if we did well. He really wanted to go to Spurs, so that limited our options as you cannot force a player to go to another team even if they offer more. He is a valued player for us, but we have now had time to plan on coping without him. Saying all that...time to shrug and move on.

XI: Boruc; Clyne, Fonte, Lovren, Shaw; Schneiderlin, Wanyama; S. Davis, Lallana, Rodriguez; Lambert.

And current XI: Forster, Martina, Fonte, Van Dijk, Bertrand, Romeu, Clasie, S. Davis, Tadic, Mane, Long.

Highlighted in red who I think is not as good as the player they replaced. Clasie/Wanyama, obviously not like for like and indeed haven't replaced each other, but as we haven't signed a replacement yet (and VW hasn't gone yet!) I compared them to keep it simple.

Shaw/Lallana debatable.
