Do we really want to take a punt on a player who's similar to what we already have but had two sh*te seasons? I'd much rather we focus our attentions on that elusive pacy player and not fanny about with too many targets. Also think Giroud, for all his critics, is far better technically than Benteke. Think he'd have similar problems with us that he does at Liverpool.
Im certainly not dismissing him and i think if he'd signed for a team that suited him more than Liverpool then he could have done well/could do well, but i just dont think he's the right player for us.
I'd rather go for that pacy forward too but is Vardy the answer? I'm still not sold on him after one season.
Not saying he is and doubt many at Arsenal think he's the answer though he could be a decent stop gap. I just don't want us to spend time chasing square pegs for round holes.
Rumours are that Wenger has turned to Edison Cavan after giving up on Jamie Vardy. Would be a MUCH better signing IMO.
Not sure Vardy is confident of cracking it at Arsenal otherwise he would have given his answer already.
Based on current rumours.... -----------------------Cech--------------------- Bellerin---BFG---Koscielny---Rodriguez -------------Xhaka------Carzorla------------- -----------------------Ozil------------------------ ----Mkhitarian----Cavani----Sanchez----- Bench: Wellbeck, Wilshere, Giroud, Gabriel, Monreal, Iwobi, Ospina. (also - Ramsey, Campbell, Jenkinson, Chambers) Strong side with a very solid bench. Ideally I would add a big tall centre back like Koulibali. I have no doubt this side would be one of the strongest in Europe. Wouldn't leave much room in the squad for Walcott and Oxo though.
That would be an excellent team, particularly with a new CB but I can't see us signing both Mkhitarian and Cavani unfortunately
I think we need to cut ties with Theo. We aren't getting value for the money he spend having him at the club. Stop the bleeding. We can get better players with a lot less
What an incredible signing Mkhitaryan would be. It would be on level similar to when we signed Sanchez, for me.
You might be right but if Theo is sold for around £25 Million that would in itself pay most the Mkhitarian fee. Leaving money to spend on a CF. Also would be a good time to sign Cavani as his value has somewhat dropped after missing that absolute sitter for Uruguay in the Copa America.
Wenger said in an interview that he thinks Vardy is going to snub us. I have to say. Although some people may find it embarrassing that he has rejected us to stay at Leicester, I'm glad (it looks like) he has. I never wanted him in the first place, don't think he's good enough for us and genuinely feel like the money could be invested in a younger and better striker. Let's hope we make a proper attempt at signing other players. Can't be having another Summer transfer window like the last one.
I just hope we've got someone better lined up for a quickish transfer and it doesn't drag on until the last day of the transfer window! There's plenty of better strikers out there, but I do think it's embarrassing not being able to convince a player like Vardy to come to us!
Don't care he's not coming as he's nothing special, but embarrassing for us. And slightly lacking in ambition for him too I think.
I would have been up for him joining, because he would have offered something different. But in hindsight it's probably better that he hasn't. I'm not sure he would have been able to make the step up to perform consistently for us, especially given the way we play. Watching Vardy for England, he doens't actually offer that much when the team are pressing around the box and ultimately I think he's an impact player in a counter attacking team. It's not embarrassing at all that he's decided not to come, ultimately it's probably a bit of a lack of ambition from Vardy and wanting to play it safe in a team and system he's familiar with. Arsenal are reportedly looking at alternative options according to the BBC. Let's hope we get something done as soon as the Euro's are done. Lewandowski has apparently made noises about joining the Premier league, if we could get somebody like him, Aubemeyang, Morata or even Mandzukic then I think those are the types of players we should be looking to improve our team with.
As I've said before in the Vardy thread I'm not convinced that he thinks he could crack it at Arsenal so he's playing the safe card. For most players of 29 this would be a dream move. Not impressed with what Lineker said though, he told Vardy to stay at Leicester and not join the perennial also rans, meaning us of course.
But Lineker always says silly things, plus he's a Spurs fan/ex-player (as well as being a Huge Leicester fan) so a little dig can be expected when we've made a bid for one of Leicesters best players...
I find this statement quite arrogant. I'm not the biggest Jamie Vardy fan but lets call a spade a spade. "Lacking in ambition"? What leg do we have to stand on to make such a statement about a guy who has just led Leicester City to a league title? An ambition that a lot of gooners think we lack. He just did it against all odds, and convincingly too. I think he has every right to keep us waiting. What ambition have we shown to make us such an attractive draw?? I'm sorry, but we are not as attractive as we used to be with all our penny pinching and lack of ambition to go for it when we've had numerous chances to. I think we need to show some humility here and just move on and actually DO (pay the fcuk up!) what is necessary to land these top players that we are crying out for.
