So - the high foot by Toby. What's your take on that one, Tom? I immediately said they it would be a free kick anywhere else on the pitch, therefore a penalty
Yeah it was a foul. If there was contact penalty, no contact indirect free kick.

Kick the ball out. What he did was unsporting behaviour.

Play should have stopped before he did so, two balls on the pitch, play should stop. Anything else should be void, he kicked the ball out, his sense of direction was like the rest of the Irish decision making, woeful.

Random Icelandic fact - as many of you will know, in Iceland, your surname is the name of your father plus 's+son' for a son or 's+dottir' for a daughter - hence Eidur Sigardsson's dad will be called Sigard, and Bjork Gudmunsdottir's dad is called Gudmun.

Now that may sound a little traditional/mildly sexist, but if the parents are unmarried, or the father is unknown, the child takes the mother's name plus the gender dependent suffix.

The most famous of these being Heidar Helgusson.

That's all for now!

Why are there no Sigardssonsson's?

What about Eidur Gudjohnsen?

Well his dad is called Gudjohn. Not sure why the son/sen discrepancy.

Actually his dad is Arnur Gudjonsen - so he *should* be Eidur Arnursson. Can't help you with that one - it's not the law to have that naming protocol, but it is absolutely the commonly done thing. Suspect there's some family reason or other.

Actually, further research shows that Eidur's dad, Arnur was a legendary footballer for Iceland (who knew?) and perhaps their greatest ever. Supposition, but I'd guess Eidur continued the surname to help him get ahead in the game.
