Never understand the fuss about what we pay....isn't our money and prices are what they are...the same fans would also moan if we missed out on players by being tight. The main question is does he suit the team and has he potential to step up to being a Saints player. If Les and the Black Box think so, we'll have to trust them. Nice to have something different to talk about. :)
In fairness if your club over pays for a player that turns out ****e then you have wasted that money and are a worse club because of the opportunity cost that you have missed out on. £35m on Andy Carroll for example, that money could have been spend far better and improved the team as a result.

If the player turns out that bad...in general, they may not shine like you hope, but are still useful. Sometimes you just have to have faith....and you will still clear some money when you sell him on. Your point is very true if you pay massive money and therefore can't buy another player, but we are not in that market. Better the odd extra million than be beaten to every player.

I guess it is the case with every transfer that there is a large risk. Plenty of players who are considered class haven't done well after a big move.
The last time we "overpaid" for a player because of the inflated market we ended up with Shane Long!

I loved the Newsthump item re the Carroll transfer (do check out Newsthump if you are not familiar with it- very funny.

Kbilly has commented on the Redmond thread on SW praising him as what would be a decent signing. In the past he's flatly said when a rumour is not on the money so could be telling...

Piece in the Telegraph earlier today also said that Saints are pressing ahead with the signing of Nathan Redmond, regardless of the fact the managerial search is ongoing.

Also, the fee is not £11m but £8m, which is his buy-out clause. I'm pretty happy with that, on the whole.

Yeah, £8m is now "take a cheap punt" territory. Solid depth and could be more.

Well even Koeman used to say that it was the club which bought the players. Reed would consult with him and he got some say, but not the final say. It's why the club can operate perfectly well in the close season without a manager. There are a couple of pre-season tours coming up. They weren't and aren't organised by Koeman either.

Last years Radio Solent Saints Fans Forum. If you've got an hour it's worth a watch, even if you've seen it before. Because a lot of tumblers fall into line in respect to answering questions that have popped up over last season and the last month or so:

Heavily researched and revealed in the Black Box as worth a punt. ;)

The Fans Forum video above actually has the bit where Les says we don't do punts [approx 7 minutes]. :)

Does it also have the bit where he says. "Take every word I say with huge pinch of salt, because I am a lying snake?" :)
