IN LIMBO: Steve Bruce's Hull City future is still uncertain

    Comments (0)
HULL City boss Steve Bruce will not be rushed into a decision over his long-term future as uncertainty continues to hang over a potential takeover of the club.

City supporters have been left in limbo since celebrating promotion in the Championship play-off final last month, with Bruce admitting he planned to consider his options before committing to a fifth season at the KCOM Stadium. The 55-year-old had initially suggested he would take 10 days to mull over his position but protracted takeover talks ensure the clarity sought by Bruce has still not been forthcoming.

City's vice chairman Ehab Allam has held negotiations with a number of interested buyers since an instant return to the Premier League was sealed last month. Former chairman Adam Pearson has been involved with one consortium to play their hand in the last fortnight but it is a US group headed up by Peter Grieve that continues to lead the race.

Grieve, a former US marine and managing director of Goldman Sachs, has tabled an offer close to the Allam family's asking price of £100m but he returned home from a spell in London at the end of last week without a deal being finalised. Sources close to Grieve remain optimistic an agreement can still be reached and there are hopes progress could come in the next fortnight. The final decision will ultimately rest with Allam, who has previously stated his wish to leave the club in "safe hands" when eventually selling up.

City's day-to-day business continues unaffected ahead of a Premier League return, with talks over a new sponsorship deal nearing a conclusion, but there is a growing desire from supporters to see the futures of both the club's board and manager quickly resolved. Bruce met with Allam on June 1 for an end-of-season debrief and has since been on a family holiday in Portugal ahead of a scheduled return to pre-season training on July 4.

No guarantees over the club's ownership have been given to Bruce, who still has two years to run on his current deal, but it is understood a budget for squad strengthening was outlined if a takeover failed to materialise. The uncertainty that has dominated the opening weeks of summer leaves player recruitment on hold for now but talks are continuing to resolve the futures of Tom Huddlestone and Ahmed Elmohamady.

The midfield pairing both started City's Championship play-off final win over Sheffield Wednesday at Wembley and have since been offered deals to extend their time in East Yorkshire. Huddlestone and Elmohamady would become free agents if nothing can be agreed by June 30 but City are hopeful further negotiations in the next seven days can iron out the last details.

i think this is possibly the most depressing thread in the history of Not606, every day i come here hoping for some good news and an end to the toxicity that is surrounding the club. I hope it's only a matter of time

lets just think about that for a second, shall we?
so you would rather us stay with our divisive owners than get in someone else? I wouldnt be very happy with a yank consortium.
You, dear sir have championed the cause against staying with AA.
Yet I am the one devoid of braincells?

Don't see anything at all wrong with this particular American consortium. The public face of it at least has an interest in football, at grassroots as well. Go to the Far East and you might get another Vincent Tan who wants to change the name and the colours.I know which I prefer thank you.

If Bruce has been told a plan, transfer budgets etc.. if we dont get taken over. Why is he still not commiting either way?
He's not happy with the budgets/finances
He doesn't want to work with the Allams
He doesn't want to work with the potential new owners

How happy are the Allams with this situation, if in 2 weeks Bruce decides he is going, we've then got to find a new manager then sort out his transfer targets etc. We could be months behind the other teams in prepaing for the new season

I believe Bruce is just waiting for confirmation that we have a new owner, I'm sure Ehab is aware that if he wants to stay on, he'll need to find a new manager.

He'll never get a better chance to make a hefty profit out of the club, everyone thinks he's a ****, I can't see any good reason for him staying, other than he likes the prestige of club ownership and he likes being a twat.
