I confess that I have kept off this particular thread for about a week now because RK appeared to be gone, only he hasn't, so I came back to find out why and I am probably more confused now than I was a week ago. There appears to have been a lot of shenanigans going on (not unusual in so-called 'professional' football - if ever there was a misnomer it is this). So my understanding is this: (please edit where I have got this wrong)

1. RK's agent was in negotiations with Southampton and Everton appear to have tapped up this agent;
2. Said agent, that had been in final negotiations with Les Reed, is fired by RK and new agent appointed by RK who then tries to leverage a better contract on the back of the illicit discussions with Everton;
3. Les tells the new agent the previous negotiated new contract stands;
4. Everton now formally approach Saints - Les 'lets loose the dogs of war' and advises Everton that its in their interests to hand over 5M because if they don't - there is the small matter of 'tapping up' our manager. 'Tail between legs' Everton agree to this and RK now finds himself trying to negotiate a contract with a club that has been shown to have acted as dishonourably has he and are probably less than happy to find themselves in this situation.

Have I got this right or am I missing something out? If correct - the bit I don't fully understand is why fire the agent? Either he was ethical and did not want to damage his relationship with Saints - possible but unlikely given there appears to be no ethical behaviour in 'professional' football. Or, this was a means of trying to mitigate any linkage to RK over the tapping up - in which case the first agent is expecting a commission fee from the other agents fee for his troubles when RK signs for Everton. For me, the latter seems more plausible.

I think the first agent was telling Everton to go away as Rk had agreed to stay at SFC, RK found out and got rid of the first agent, as he was angry that the agent had not informed him of Everton's approach.

Actually, I think his first agent was the initial problem to be honest. My understanding was that he put RK's name forward to Everton in the first place! When they showed an interest he asked what kind of deal was on the table. At this time it became public and although his agent tapped Everton up it could be thought that Everton did the tapping up.
The only answer was to sack his agent so that he wouldn't be associated with the tapping up. (Ron's involvement initially could have been a Sackable offence so that if negotiations broke down with Everton he could have been out of a job along with his staff.
When Ron signs I think it is possible his first agent will get a share of the spoils, probably around £.5 mil or so.
Might sound far fetched.........but Everton are paying over the top to get him.........suspicious to me...............

My bad.

I think Koeman sacked his agent because he didn't keep him in the loop (pure supposition remember). Said agent says he speaks to Les about three times a week....so pretty close. Koeman listened to offer, but not 100% sure, so gave Saints a chance to counter or offer more to spend on players (may have known they wouldn't/couldn't, but felt he should). At this point anything could happen, but usual thing happened: two men = argument. Koeman feeling he was entitled to more; Les pissed off after years of this (especially if there had been problems before). Ron leaves in huff....not even in the mood to negotiate leaving Everton hanging.

What do I expect: Ron has cooled down, recovers composure, knows there is no way back and takes very flattering offer from Everton (who are by now not too chuffed with him).

Could this seemingly get more messy, I think it could. <yikes>
Only 5 possibilities:

1. Koeman returns and everyone pretends nothing happened, fans now a bit suspicious but generally glad to return to status quo as we really liked Ron (0.1% chance).
2. Koeman put on gardening leave because Saints really love wasting money. (0.9%)
3. Koeman turns down both offers and on a matter of principle leaves for pastures new. (0%)
4. Koeman's body washes up on a beach and Les Reed and Kreuger have been caught on camera carrying a large black bag to his car. (interesting but 0%)
5. Koeman announced as Everton manager and every Saints fans says he was never that good and his eyes were too close together anyway (99%)

I remember being told by my mother that although that word was in a book I couldn't say it because it was rude and unpleasant....and that was in the 50s when I was five. Never have said it except in the context of a discussion.

P.s. just remembered that was the colour of my school cardigan...n***** brown, but I never made the connection to people at the time. Now it would just be dark brown. The times I am afraid.

Meticulous, as in so meticulous that they already have their possible targets should anything go wrong.
The club has said previously that they are always putting succession planning at the forefront of what they do. I confess I had never encountered this to any great extent but now working in the UAE - it is also at the forefront of what we do here, where internally we look to see who can make the next step up and how to get them to the level should a person leave in the future. We also analyse peoples roles and look for the right attributes needed for that position and then look for that in the job market place.

Have been on holiday the past week and have just sort of waited for Everton to announce koeman. I've checked today and it's still not bloody done!!

Does anyone actually know what is going on with this?

My mum still calls it that.

Tobes does. He knows everything about this deal, because he's more ITK than our ITKs.

Did Everton have any/many England U21s in the recent tournament win?
Just wondering, if they did, if they are looking forward to welcoming Koeman to Goodison, after listening to tales from JWP and Matty Targett, about his (alleged) behind scenes behaviour.
