The playoffs where an absolute minimum and a saving grace. Derby beat us 3 times this season! Steve Bruce over the last few years, finished a modest 16th, got us relegated after spending big bucks, promoted through the back door. Nice bloke and took us to an FA cup final but don't think he would of lasted at many other clubs with that record. As someone said doing the same but expecting different outcomes is insanity!!
There were plenty on here calling Diame but Bruce stuck by him because he knew what he could do! Many managers on here were saying drop him! Well I'm glad he didn't listen to them a couple Saturday's ago!
And yet we finished above them, beat them in the playoffs and went up, as they staged their annual Spring implosion. Maybe they should get SB in to get them promoted?
I wish people would stop saying things like Bruce was our most dependable defender at the cup final. It was he who went steaming needlessly through the back of whoever it was to give a silly free kick away in a vey dangerous area to let them back in it!!!
To be fair 16th is not modest, it is the best placing this club has ever achieved in over 110 years so can we please accept it as being the greatest achievement we have ever had? Also saying that the "saving grace" was being promoted by yet another winning trip to Wembley is unfair IMO and this somehow should be considered to be "through the back door" implies we did not do what was required, ie get promoted by the rules of the competition. We also achieved promotion by scoring more goals at home than any other team in the whole league, not just our league, so please guys lets not make out we have had to watch dross all season because that it not true.
Apparently the stats don't lie! http://m.hulldailymail.co.uk/Hull-C...15-16-season/story-29381446-detail/story.html
Luck probably played little if any part in that. It was the faith of the owner that SB was the best man to get us back up and his record of only managing 4 seasons in this league and getting promoted on each and every occasion was more like the real reason, but don't let important stats like this very impressive one get in the way of having another go at our manager. We deserve better and Alex should be called upon to come out of retirement.
Finally for my 3rd post for the day, lets just get it straight, Alex hit the post twice including the one setting up our second goal, but lets blame him for trying to tackle someone 25-30 yards out. You are always good for a laugh Hat! You just cannot get over the managers son thing can you?
I'm only posting this because it's in the news now, on top of which, yes he should have gone last year, the fact is he didn't & he got the job done which he started out to do. It wasn't as comfortable as we'd have liked, but the end result is PL football again. This whole argument is building up whether SB should be manager after getting us promoted AGAIN! Yes he also got us relegated, but that's all in the past, as is the Cup Final & Europe. SB deserves another crack at the PL with us, if he's failing then he'll go, no doubt, especially if we get new owners, I can't see anyone keeping faith like the Allams did. I don't know who would be a decent replacement if he did go now, let alone if he goes at Christmas time, but I guess we'll come to that bridge when we cross it. Right now we should be looking forward to another PL season & not continuously criticising the manager.
Don't give a **** that he's the managers son I just think he's vastly over rated by many and quite a poor player. People like to forget the long list of miserable **** ups he makes and just focus on the handful of good games he's had. And him going off had **** all impact on the result. His replacement Paul McShane had no bearing on the goals that lost us the game. Alex Bruce did.
Sadly, there's a trend among some to criticise everything, and brush over comments and predictions they get woefully wrong. Delusional in deed.
It's a good stat, but you're choosing to pick out the good bits without acknowledging the large range of **** ups we had to endure along the way. I expected us to get promoted, so we should've with this squad and it shouldn't have been the laborious task it ended up as. Also, Danny ****ing Graham.
The attitude and sheer ****ing delusional beliefs of some posters makes me cringe. Look in the mirror!
