Maybe we're at opposite ends of a circle:lipsrsealed:. I remember when Shaw broke through. We were desperately looking for a left back and couldn't get one so Shaw was the only option. Had we bought someone in, who knows? But he was able to develop. As you say, these guys never will. But is it because they aren't good enough or because they aren't given the opportunity. We'll never know.

Regarding your last point, I don't think we are significantly different to Stoke or West Ham, other than they don't get their team picked apart every year.
They probably do but the media representation is given a more positive stance. With Saints we 'lose players' with other teams they are 'let go' or 'replaced'. Semantics can paint a very different picture.

You get the feeling that we are the only "Selling Club" in the Premier, all the rest are our potential customers. However I have concern about Leicester, they could get pillaged.

Having skimmed some forums over the last few days - no real reason it's not like there's anything important going on at the club - I have made this discovery.

Forum football posters word de rigueur is bloody 'deluded' it is in any post about managers and players and is top of my list of hated football words along with the current players' being interviewed and their favourite 'obviously'.

Ho hum - it's a distraction.

JWP and Targett started all those games only because the first choices weren't available.

JWP was drafted in due to injuries of Clasie and Davis as well as the suspension(s) of Wanyama which meant Davis was often moved into the DM role.
JWP and Targett got starts when Tadic was injured and then out of form.
Targett got starts when Bertrand was injured.

They didn't start for any other reason than the first choice wasn't available.

One thing that annoyed me was that when there was no DM available that Davis was moved into DM instead of Reed being put in there.
If they play that many games then I'm not really too bothered why they play them.

I did think Reed should play more. I would also have been tempted to use the kids to shake things up a bit during our poor run in November/December. This summer I'd be tempted not to replace Wanyama, move Romeu into the starting line up in his place and play Reed more.

I think we expanded our squad last summer expecting to qualify for the group stages of the Europa League. When we didn't there weren't enough games to spread things around as much as we wanted. Depending on who the manager is I think we'll see more of the young players in the League Cup, Europa games against weaker opposition, some league games and maybe the FA Cup.

Article in the HMS Times says De Boer is our first choice. Is the Italy thing happening?

I know 'I've seen it somewhere' doesn't really mean anything but I've seen it on other forums that he is said to have ruled himself out as not interested and on the same topic did David Moyes say before Koeman that he wouldn't be interested in the job here because he wanted to manage a 'top club'?

Looks like anyone the fans are thinking about [with some saying not good enough for us] think we ain't that much of a prospect [as we seem to think].

Right. That's it. The next manager we sign must agree to 5 year contract with a 5 year option, and to deposit two of his children in our vaults.

No......all of his children........Their wives can have visiting rights only........once a week should be enough! <laugh>

Moyes wouldn't get a better offer than us, imo he'll have do something elsewhere to proved he's capable still of managing a top 8 in the PL.

Marca reporting that Emery is on the verge of joining PSG.

Sevilla set to pinch Quique Sanchez Flores, who was imminently expected to sign with Espanyol. Ouch.

What about a giant rat trap (size to be determined) sown into his underpants that is activated should he shake hands with the chair of any other club.

No you're right. I'm being far too liberal and wishy washy again.

I think you only need to look at what Poch is doing at Spuds regarding younger players. Sadly, Poch was *far* better suited to how the board want to run the club than Ronald ever has been.

And remind me. Why was I so much more pissed off when Poch left than when this guy left? We knew we'd got a truly great manager in Poch. I was disappointed that his team missed out on second (albeit pleased with our part in it!). Vastly superior to Arsenal, their football was breathtaking at times. Reminded me of a team that swept Liverpool, City and Chelsea aside a couple of years back. Now who were they?

My dislike of Neville Southall reached a new low (if that was possible) this morning, when on radio 5 he was so derogatory towards Southampton. His claim that Everton have better players, the club is better, the fans are better and the potential is greater seemed to totally ignore the direction of each club in the past 5 years.

Out of interest, I had a discussion with one of my sons on the phone 2 days ago about who we would replace in our team (not squad) with an Everton player and we came up with Lukaku (on a good day) for Pelle, Coleman for Cedric/Cuco and Barkley (on a good day) for Clasie/Ward-Prowse. In every other position we both consider the Saints players to be the better choice for the way we play.

You are upset by the views of a dustbinman? FFS.
