They were one season wonders in the Premiership. I haven't changed anything. I was clearly talking about the Premier League in my original post. No, he didn't He scored 20+ goals for Sunderland in the PL once and that was it. I don't understand why you keep repeating this line when you are wrong. Have another look at his goalscoring record if you don't believe me. You've tried to correct me multiple times, you were wrong and you've ended up looking like a total fool. Well done Piskie. Let me get this straight. You were wrong about Bent's stats, you've refused to acknowledge that you were wrong and then you accuse me of being patronising. Is it any wonder people are deterred from debating with you when you come up with sh*t like this? They clearly were, but if it soothes your fragile ego, I'll pretend to agree with you This is also wrong. What an absolute mess of a post. If you're going to reply back to me, do it properly and check you have your facts correct. I can't be bothered to repeat myself again.
To be fair... saying Bent and Phillips 'banged in goals wherever they went' is a subjective statement and you can't argue against it because it all comes down to what PISKIE has decided 'banging goals in' means to him. If his definition of banging them in is actually having a very middling scoring record most of the time then you can't argue against that. But yes, most of what he has written is entirely untrue... but come on, it's quite amusing seeing him write it anyway and try to argue its validity isn't it?
When you've finished ranting you might want to go back and check your facts. Bent scored 20+ for both Sunderland and charlton, when both teams were in the premier league.
I saw a rumour on Twitter (I know!) that Chambers might be loaned out to Watford for a season. Makes sense I suppose if we are signing a new CB, but I think I'd prefer to sell Merts (much as I like the BFG), buy an upgrade for him and then keep the rest of the CBs, with Gabriel as back up for Kos, and Chambers as back up for the new version of Merts, and also acting as a third RB in case of injuries and in cup games...
Agree. We should only be lending out chambers if we're bringing a new CB in. In principal though I think a loan for chambers at CB could be really good for his development
No he hasn't. Not top flight goals in top flight English football which is what Brunel said early on. All you're doing is adding in all goals in all comps to try and make your point valid. Very early on Brunel said top flight goals in top flight English football. The league cup and FA cup do not fall in this category. If you have to use goals in that competition to eek out a desired total then you know your conclusion of them 'banging them in at every club they've played at' is hanging by a thread. In 11 seasons in top flight football, Bent scored at a rate of more than 1 top flight goal every 2 games in ONE season (2009/10). In 9 seasons in top flight football, Phillips only scored at a rate of more than 1 top flight goal every 2 games in ONE season (1999/00).
Name me the two seasons when Phillips scored 30 goals in ALL competitions when he was playing top flight football. Name the three seasons in close succession that Bent score 20+ goals in ALL competitions. let's see your definition of 'close succession'. Still waiting for you to name these seasons.
You are getting confused. Brunel was claiming that he only scored 20+ on more than one occasion in the championship. That was clearly wrong. He scored 20+ for charlton in 2005 and 20+ for Sunderland in 2009. Neither of those occasions were those teams in the championship, they were both premier league teams. This also answers your question about bent above
Anyway, the claim that Bent and Philips were 'one season wonders' is wrong as I have shown. The whole thing was brought up because Brunel was trying to compare them to Vardy. Personally if he signs I think he can do a job for us in an area where we've clearly lacked a clinical finisher ,whether he can repeat it seasons after season remains to be seen.
The whole premisis of his argument was that Bent was a one season wonder because he only scored 20+ once in the premier league and his 20+ seasons in the championship didn't count. He was wrong, Bent scored 20+ for Charlton in 2005 and 20+ for Sunderland in 2009. Both teams were in the premier league at the time.
It is neither subjective nor an opinion that Bent scored 20+ goals in a season more than once whilst he was playing in the premier league.
