I'm not just saying this about Saints, I am talking about the whole of football. I just feel it's sad when most of the time clubs try their best, but still fans aren't happy. It is exactly that he reads his own press and gets upset about his own image that makes me rate him so little. His little touchline dances of frustration and passion are so designed to build his brand. I can't stand managers who can't deal properly with the press - AVB and Tim Sherwood being recent different examples. Sherwood was over-honest; AVB can't help sulking, and looks all the time like he is doing his best (but failing) to represent some perceived image of himself. He doesn't look like he has enough confidence in himself, and that seems to be fatal as regards commanding respect from players and Board. As ever, I trust the Board, though, and hope they do the right thing and don't panic.
"We can afford to keep players like Mane" doesn't sound like we will keep players at any cost. "I will see out my contract" is different.
To be fair to FLT, hopefully we all save being sensible for real life. If we can't react slightly stupidly as seasoned Saints fans [in my case heavily seasoned] then what the hell can we do in times like this.? I make no apologies. Sensible left me on Friday night and I'm fine with that.
As I typed that I knew someone would say that's a contradiciton. The thing is that the Board can't do right in some eyes, or rather those eyes like to see the negative. All Saints fans knew there was some discussion on Koeman's future coming up and clearly that went well. If they if said nothing and Koeman went on holiday these same people would be bemoaning the Board for saying nothing. In fact, if we scroll back through, you'd be able to read people asking what the news was. I think your comparison is glib. One is trying to give wanted information to fans. The other decided to truisms look honourable. I'd have a little bit of respect back for Koeman if he came straight out and said, "Listen, I've just more than doubled my salary; I couldn't say no" - he won't though, there will be some ****e reason thrown up. I am just different to some people. I look to back my own first rather than poke them. I find it odd that people look to find the good or justification in the one who has done "wrong" by your own.

Non-existent really, but he knows the league, and has the clout. Not saying he'd be in my top three or four choices (I don't have one name for that list yet), but just enjoyed it as a call outside the box. I badly wanted Tuchel last time out; was vocal in my dislike of McClaren; and admittedly was slightly disappointed with Ron (just the wrong side of in the middle), but happy once he was appointed and I saw his first interview. The problem this time seems a bit more complex - there seem a lot more points to hit this time, and more to lose somehow. Some managers I like a lot aren't quite right for us at this point; and others are really too big for us and thus appear to be unrealistic. Between those two points, I can't really think of a name. Which of course doesn't matter. For my money - though not his! - Ron has screwed up here. He knew us enough to navigate us through these paths fairly consistently, without much damage to what may be a much bigger job offer.
Has Peach been fed this, ahead of the announcement, to help soften the blow? Get some positives out there.
Was being sarcastic. If he had achieved success, and was sought after, and offered double salary (especially back in his neck of the woods), I'm sure he'd take it. We know Nigel only as the guy trying his best and not really being appreciated by the club's hierarchy for all he did for us. He appears saintly as he was a humble underdog in that regard. But he's human like us all.
Indeed [1st paragraph], I'd have just a little bit too. Also agree that he won't. It'll be some bulls*** excuse about football and the history of Everton FC. As for blaming your own, of course it depends upon the circumstances and the respect that one has for our own. But, in all aspects, Les Reed has done a wonderful job as DOF at Southampton and continues to do so. In fact, if he was enticed away then I'd think we'd actually lost it.
