Well that's easier said than done. Our board have always said they want things done in a sustainable way... maybe they just don't want to invest huge amount of money on transfers and wages (much bigger than we already are) and I admire them for that.

Can we not blame the board for once? If it is true he is gone then it was simply a offer he couldn't refuse.

The other way to frame that is: Kat/Les aren't willing to chuck their funding behind someone as part of a five-year plan for UCL * if there's a chance of the manager upping sticks just 20% of the way into the plan, with a new man coming in and binning players/coaches off.

Well if that's the way it's always going to be, we'll never progress any further. So Ron is right to leave.
 
The frustrating thing is that we can compete financially with Everton. We made a bigger profit than them in 2015. We have owners just as wealthy, but you can only spend what you make with financial fair play anyway. If we had given Ron the transfer budget he required and a big pay rise then he would most likely be staying. This isn't necessarily showing a lack of ambition, it just shows the board aren't willing to chuck money at it in order to achieve. They believe there is a better way. Whether or not this other way can ever compete with big spending and help Saint to success... we shall have to wait and see.

I would imagine it's purely down to the supposed £6 million a year and £100 million to spend this Summer. I think the board have shown over the last two Summers they will spend money, and money on new contracts etc. Shame if true, but we move on.

You say that without knowing any facts as to what the budget he wanted was or what they said we'd spend. He may have asked for 150m to spend. He may have said he wanted to sign Zlatan on 300k a week and the board didn't want to. We just don't know.

The only thing I know is that the Board keep saying they want the club run in a certain manner and I back that.

Ps. Didn't we say that after Poch?

It's a bit batshit on there mate, so they've hardly got room to pass judgement.

Strange turn of events, as it was dead in the water last week, no idea why he had a change of heart, but Moshiri has got some very ambitious plans for Everton both on and off the pitch, so maybe that - plus the £6m lol, was too good to turn down in the end.

I'll resist the temptation to dig out the posts that I got in response to me bringing up the discussions we were having with his agent a couple of weeks back :)

I'm not. If we attempted to meet Koeman's desires, but weren't willing to stump 100m in a summer, I have no complaints at all with that decision. I'd be concerned only if they weren't willing to change our spending patterns at all, in light of the new financial environment.

I think he said something along the lines of the players have overperformed, he was being smart trying to manage expectations I think.

I'm not convinced he could take us much further, not because he isn't good, but he recognises the hit and miss aspect that we are one in maybe ten clubs that can be 6th in the league and be in with a shout of top 4. If he goes to Everton they are likely to pump serious cash at it and has a calculated gamble it will move him on again.

For what it is worth I don't think it will work out for him there, yet we all knew deep down it would for MP...

I admire the Board for this. If Everton want to chuck money at it, for their sake it had better work out. I get frustrated by fans just wanting the Board to throw money at it (or assuming we haven't or won't). It was only 2009 that we went into administration.

Lots of people writing us off, here, too. Saints have continually stressed a new five-year plan. Players have signed and are in talks to sign five/six year deals. If we're about to enter the next phase and it has sustained investment and new goals, perhaps it's best to have someone who can see themselves here past 2020 rather than someone who won't commit beyond one more season in the hope that something better comes along for them. Especially if Katharina is willing to up the funding again.

(just thinking out loud, by the way - not been informed of anything fresh about Koeman's future)
