3 and 4 irons are the devil mate. I so hate those things I reverted to hybrids and my game when from strength to strength,

After a good read on here today I thought I would risk hitting a few balls on the range tonight, £4 for 60 balls, robbing ****s. Anyway, after 6 months without swinging a club I was very surprised how well I was connecting. Took 2 wedges (PW and 52 degree), 8 iron, 6 iron and my 3 wood. Duffed a couple but was hitting my wedge approx. 130 and my 8 iron over 160 yds. 6 iron was a tad ropey but that was expected. My 3 woods were immense, well over 225 on the carry and relatively straight. Will have a few days hitting short irons then I should be sorted. Cant bloody wait

I played 9 holes at the wood yesterday evening, bit of standing water but not too bad, greens still nice.
What range do you use? Pineridge or Downshire?
I tend to go down the club and play the last 4 holes early on for my practice, play about 20 tee shots off 16th then have about 40 bunker shots as that is my weakest part of my game. Then have about 40 bump and runs with my wedge and a few shots from about 30-40 yards with my sand iron, tend to open the club face up and go down the shaft and that works quite well. Then play a couple of tee shots off the 18th to finish off then might go on the putting green for 15-20 minutes.
Going down again tom afternoon after work.

Get a 90 degree wedge, hit it as hard as you can, knock yourself out, then you won't have to worry about your putting game.

Pine Ridge mate as its the nearest to me. It took me over an hour to finish a basket of 60 balls but I took my time and thought about my swing. Just hit a couple of balls with each club and alternated between long club and short club. In comparison, a young lad (18 ish) was in the bay next to me and smacked drive after drive after drive. When he connected they were immense; would have carried over 275 yds but was so erratic.

    I loved playing golf.
    In the late 80s
I had a half set Sam Snead Wilsons there were blades.
I played for about 4 years but couldn't get the swing of it.
    Never played since.
Although mostly all my mates still play.

Love golf but don't get chance to play now. We could only afford either golf membership or my season card... Sunderlabd i.loved long before golf so won the day. Used to play off 9 at durbam city but cant get around in under 95 now! And 95 is on a good day.

I have played royal lytham course whilst I was around 14. Was in holiday and looked for a golf course locally and found that one. Until I saw the open being played there around 5 years later I had no idea where I was playing! Only cost me £4 for a round too!!

Anybody on here played St. Mellion?

If you're thinking about packing golf in, go there. It'll make your mind up for you.

Hardest course I've ever played! :emoticon-0121-angry

Never played it but heard the same from a number of the lads I used to go away golfing with!!

I play once a year now. End of October at a charity day at ram side! And I'm crap every time but always manage 2 or 3 high scoring holes!! (Stableford)

Me and my cousin used to try and play an Open Championship course every year, One year we played Carnoustie...after 4 I was level par my cousin was 1 under. By 18 neither of us broke 100. I was off 8 at the time he plays off 5...Such a hard course. The next day we played Kingsbarns... That course nearly destroyed my game, without doubt the toughest course I have ever played

i love my 3 iron, and my 2 iron. distance ain't a problem, as i can get my old ping zing up to 250 off the tee. i've bought new for more shaping and accuracy.

i just need to work on distance control with all the wedges. and get my putting stroke into metronome mode.... easier said than done, as my job (travel) means getting practice time is a nightmare.

Not St Mellion but played St Andrews, didn't get out of the ballot to play the Old Course but played the New Course. It was difficult but an enjoyable all the same. Next day we played the Eden Course; the wind was up and it made that course nearly unplayable. Links golf is madness.

On the note of difficult golf courses and for the golfers on here; which course has been the hardest for you to play and why? For me it was a club outside of Monmouth, The Rolls of Monmouth. A stunning golf course, very long with greens like a snooker table. I played it a few times but 3 years ago I played in the ****ty rain and it was blowing a hooley. Course was just about playable but came in with 16 points playing off 10 handicap and finished 3rd out of 24.

A few years ago a bunch of us decided to follow the Open, playing it shortly after it was held.

The first was Carnoustie. We had such an awesome time we went there 3 years in a row! Playing around September/October, the first time, the weather was incredible. The next year it was truly Carnastie!!!

Great bargain though. All 3 courses for just an extra £20!!

I've followed the Dunhill round Kingsbarns. Its a stunning looking course.

Well, i played on Saturday in a medal comp, stroke play like you see on telly for the non golfers.
Shot a net 70 so 2 over my handicap with 3 doubles on the card.
We have the Club Champs coming up in the first weekend of July, day 1 is a qualifier and then day 2 is in order of shots, the more you scored on day 1 the earlier you go out on day 2 and the least shots you played on day 1 the later you go out on day 2. Its the biggest event in or diary so going to get some practice in and see if i can get a top ten place.
This Friday i have my singles knock-out where i am giving my opponent 15 shots!!!
Sunday is mine and the wife's mixed knock-out then in the afternoon i have arranged a fun event where there are over 40 players entered.
    Roll on Friday.
