Slade would be an improvement and that doesn't happen often under this regime.

Yep - that's how i measure success as it stands.

Appointing a British manager to appease the customers is akin to icing a dog turd. Totally pointless in the great scheme of things. Jackson would be the best bet if going for a Brit, rather than appointing an extra from Right Said Fred. Would hate to see Jacko bolted by October though, which you know is inevitable.

it's so bad at the club right now that i couldnt really give a toss who they appoint. now more than ever reaffirms my decision not to go back until roland has gone.

and then i have days like today where i hear 7 staff have left in the last week, slade is being appointed next tues and katrien still thinks she is right about what she's doing and that we'll come round to seeing it her way eventually. the training ground seems to have been halted as there is no point going for cat 1 in league 1. it would be better than our first team.

if jacko didnt need a wage, he should walk out and tell the world what is really going on there.

and why arent card using that 27k to get in the FA's faces about fit and proper people. they could be taking out adverts, asking to meet the football league and the FA. but that too is all quiet.

Agree with all you said Sig, but the FA don't give a **** about teams like us, so I feel that would be a waste of time and money. I'm sure Card will spend it wisely (<laugh>)

Slade would be a shocking appointment. Had one good season with leyton orient, where he didn't even get them promoted. Can't fathom we some seem satisfied with him. He is a failure and allegedly plays boring football. Increasingly looking like I won't even bother with the away games.

My contacts tell me that Russell Slade is currently on holiday, but that a deal has been agreed with Charlton and his appointment will be announced early next week.

That means he hasn't met our "CEO" yet, so don't go counting any chickens.

If we are losing many staff this summer wouldn't it be gratious of Mr & Mrs Parkes to take early retirement and let younger people keep their jobs?

But Sue is not actually an employee of the Club - she just pretends she is to get in the Directors Box for free <cheers>

    Blackpool have appointed Gary Bowyer
Leeds are in talks with Gary Monk
Blackburn poised to appoint Owen Coyle

Its what Clubs without managers do in May <cheers>

Wimbledon manager Neil Ardley says he has already started his planning for League One.

At least Charlton have appointed a new Chief Scout <doh>, although it is hard to know who Steve "Dick" Head is working for as he doesn't have a manager to give him a list of requirements ?

So even these basket-case clubs can get a manager but we can't? So Roland has succeeded in making us No.1 basket-case club? She did say he doesn't do failure. I suppose eventually we'll persuade some loser to join us for 3 or 4 months before the Serb steps in. All I'm hoping for is not to get relegated, which is a tall order, but at present with new owners we could recover relatively quickly, but another relegation would see us in massive trouble, with large numbers of customers taking their custom elsewhere, never to return. Remember a lot of them travel quite a long way.

On a semi serious note, it does look as if Slade has the job but is away on holiday.

Massively underwhelming if that is the case

I got 360 votes in my poll yesterday and 73% said appointing Slade won't bring them back..

Slade won't bring people back, but I suspect very few managers would be able to do so?

He did a decent job last season. It didn't start well but he slowly started to win them over. The most telling point would be that he's worked for a bat **** crazy owner already.

Nothing rarely changes; it's repackaged and rebranded but nonetheless, still the same ****.

Talk about the cart before the horse <doh>

I thought the long established idea was that the manager recommended positions that needed strengthening to the Chief Scout?

This has been doing my head in for a while - bit like the rest of the club. Some managers like to play ball to feet on the floor, others attack down the wings, others lump it forward to a big man in the middle. Without a manager in place, the chief scout is essentially twiddling his thumbs (or maybe answering the phone on the nhs call centre. About as sensible as hiring a life guard when you still don't have planning permission to build the swimming pool. Meanwhile, the basket case of English football, Blackpool, have managed to find a manager prepared to work with the Oystons (I mean that with all respest to their fans, and none whatsoever to the Oystons). There was a great post on a blog called 'Chrissy Powells Flat Cap' the other day about the simple delay in getting a manager in is in itself unacceptable. Lo and behold, the first two comments were along the lines of 'it's not Charlton's fault that Wilder chose to go to Sheffield'. Hell in a handcart, everyone is getting a new manager in except us. Please katrien, find another microphone and ask the footballing world why Charlton is considered to be badly run. Then provide examples of what you and Rolly have achieved with the 38 million pounds you claim he has invested in the club, and why we are a league further down the ladder now than when he arrived.
    Then **** off.

To be honest - relationships between managers and scouts are becoming more of a grey area with every passing season.

Today for instance, citeh sign Gundogan and its announced as Peps "first signing". That deal has been 90% completed for a good few months now.

With yoof football becoming more luxurious - clubs wanting to go back to the 90's where they could brag about their kids team being the best you are having the same problems. A series of scouts are pinpointing players for the future, and if it's not an "exceptional" talent then the first team manager won't bat an eyelid, where as the youth coach will just have to get on with the job at hand - which is to make a winning team from players provided.

It's why I think a lot of new managers don't have problems working for a Cellino or The Rat, because this system isn't alien to them.
