Best of luck guys if Slade does come to you. He'll do you a job in stabilising the playing side of the club but don't expect to enjoy the football next season. He's the sort of "safe pair of hands" that you might just need right now given the clowns you now have running the club.

From our experience at Cardiff where we've had our own share of owner issues (though now it seems Tan has learned a lot), Slade is a dull, boring, frustrating 4-4-2 dinosaur of a manager taken on to win you nothing but steady the ship if nothing else.

If you're aiming for mid table safety, Slade's your guy - anything other than that would be a huge bonus given his lower league track record. In over 20 years managing down there he's never taken a team over the line to the next level. The only positive would be that I don't think that he's ever managed a team downwards either. That's probably the best you can expect.

BTW, as you know we had Tony Watt on loan for a while across here and I think we'd have taken him permanently if we hadn't been stuck with that transfer embargo in January. Brought a bit of life for a while to our flaccid performances under Slade though I don't think he set the world alight at Blackburn afterwards. Is he still with you and do you want to keep him?

i think the consensus is that about 70% of the fans will stay away as we dont support the owner. we've sold 4000 ST's whereas last time we were in league one we had sold 11000.it doesnt matter what the football is like up until he's gone.

You can have tony watt. overrated, doesnt pass, doesnt shoot at the right time. in fact, take our whole team.

    @Oldsparkey

Don't get too excited about Watt - he lacks pace and won't score 12 goals if he plays every game in the season. He can also start an argument in an empty room. He won't stay with us because our twat owner is hell bent on cutting costs still further.

Interesting views on Slade. If social media is anything to go by, our fans don't want him.

Wasn't getting particularly excited about Watt Royston, he just seemed to want to go forward when all the other buggers on the pitch wanted to play sideways or backwards - that was the difference he brought.

You'r right, he was a bit head down and arse upwards in his approach but it was a bit of fresh air at the time he arrived. I did say that he didn't seem to pull up any trees for Blackburn after he left us.

BTW, I'm pretty sure my views on Slade are shared by the majority on the Cardiff board.

    Have to agree with Sparkey.

Slade did what it said on the tin. He cut the wage bill by £12m, got rid of some deadwood (although then brought in his own <doh>) and stabilised the playing side to the extent that we got to the fringes of the playoffs. However, that was it. Little imagination and couldn't inspire players to the next level. We all think he was sent "upstairs" as a reward for doing what he did, until something better came along.

Over to you Charlton. We will watch from afar with interest if he signs.

Cheers for the heads up Oldsparkey :emoticon-0148-yes:.

Whilst Russell Slade's appointment excites me about as much as rubbing a cheese grater on my knob does... I'll take a bit of stability on the footballing front.

I'd also be happy if he got Watt to stay because for me he's our best striker and will do well in League One.

Slade has officially left his role at Cardiff - so seems nailed on now.

I don't see why he wouldn't remain with us. He didn't exactly set the world alight in his various loan spells, and he's under contract (not sure how long for).

If there's no takers it makes sense to at least use him.

Sparkey... did he play much under Slade...?

Franco - I think Slade played him every game he was fit. Did a job up for us that was different from our usual setup.

I know he started straight away first game when we drew up at Burnley and his style was certainly different to what we'd been used to.

As said before, he has a bit of an 'ead down, arse up approach to the game but most of us thought it was a bit of fresh air rather than the usual Slade pedestrian rubbish. Good luck to him and you if he stays. <ok>

We, as fans, certainly wanted to keep him for the rest of the season and Slade was keen to sign him. However, we got caught up in a transfer umbongo and the rest is history.

I think most Cardiff fans would have him back, if only for his up and at 'em approach. We haven't had that since Bellamy retired. It is very refreshing compared to the staid plod we have endured for the rest of the season. Also, if our new manager wants to play a more pressing game then Watt is ideal for that.

BFB & Sparky... I'm encouraged by your assesment lads. It sounds to me as if there's a strong chance Slade will want to use Watt.

    Fingers crossed...

With Watt fighting his way back in to the Scotland fold - I'd assume that will play a big part as to whether he stays.

That and he'd still command a seven figure sum and KM will be licking her lips at that.

Sky Sports reporting that the Right Said Fred lookalike Slade is now in talks to become Meire's 7th manager in 2.5 years.

Completely underwhelming appointment if it happens. Might as well have got Jackson in the dug out, at least that would have sold a few extra STs. The sad thing is you just know we Meire has only gone for Slade because he is available/cheap/no compo etc.

Not even a scintilla of imagination or ambition FFS.

Strange comment from the Wrexham Piebald just now:

"All I want is my good friend Scott Young appointed as Slade's No.2 and thats me sorted"

    <laugh>

There can only be one logical explanation - Reams abandons a life on JSA to become Charlton's new physio

Paul says he will finally turn his back on Charlton after 32 years (<laugh><laugh>) if slade is appointed. How old is the bloke? He has supported Cardiff and West Ham. That's not even including his first love Leicester!

Once Gudmundsson f**** off after the Euros there is no reason Watt cannot stay.

Once he has taken a cut in salary...........................
