I've only just looked at this thread so apologies if I'm repeating anything, but do we need any wholesale changes? The squad we have got is a much better one that we had last time we got promoted. We've got Premier League quality in Defence (McGregor, Dawson, Davies, Bruce, Odjubadjo, Robertson) and Midfield (Huddlestone, Diame, Snodgrass, Elmo, Livermore) but (as usual!) we are very light up front. Hernandez is probably OK but needs Premier league support - which costs. It's difficult to attract players to Hull, but the likes of Lambert/Crouch should be considered. We probably need to add some pace in midfield - someone like Lennon or even Forestieri.
We need a solid goalkeeping option. Also cover for LB (no more of this playing Rb's at LB bullshit). A tough tackling midfielder would be welcome. Two strikers and I think we're golden. I make that 5. Peachy.
We've missed someone like this since ash, we need a ball winner then mobility around him. For to long our midfield has been slow carthorse like, we always seem to be miles off the pace and giving the opposition time on the ball whilst been unable to get forward and dominate teams for periods of games.
What is our price range? I'd be offering 10m for Hughes with add-ons including a wad more if we stay up.
Are you forgetting about financial fair play? Even if we have the money to spend on someone like Will Hughes we can't spend it with impunity. Anyway, Derby would want far more than £10 million up front.
I wouldn't baulk at paying £10m-£12m for Hughes....quality costs, and he is PL quality, has a bit of energy about him and is young. With the nucleus we have, we should be able to afford to go for quality over quantity in this window.
FFP in the PL only comes into effect if you're playing in Europe. Or do you think clubs like WBA have much higher revenue streams than us and can afford to spunk 8m on James Chester only to never play him?
Hughes is out of our reach. I'd go and spend most our budget on two strikers, as good as we can get. No need for much elsewhere. A back up left back and someone quick and skilful to go on one of the wings.
WBA can't afford to spend £8m on a player who never plays, but that's going to happen because Tony Poolips is a ****** and that's what he does.
How long left does Hughes have on his deal, out of interest? Bruce clearly was a big admirer of him after the second leg, and he seems to like going after players he has seen play live (Odubajo, Maguire, etc.)
