    Age 28.
    Years at SAFC 7
    Game played 140.

Is it time for Lee Barry Cattermole to move on?

Does the M'Vila deal have any influence on this?

    Which clubs maybe interested?
    Maybe Boro.

I like Catts, i hope he stays, but can fully understand if he moves on.

I'd let him know that he's no longer going to be a first team player and will have to make do with standing in for injuries and suspensions, maybe starts in the cup competitions. I'd tell him he'd still be a good influence to have around the club, so he would be appreciated. Then leave it up to him.

i think he still has a job at Sunderland no matter who comes in, think he would be a great person to have as a squad player and deep down i think he would know this anyway.
Don't think Sam is one to hide the facts from anyone.

Great answer! May already have happened. Sam said he'd already started discussing futures with the squad.

There's no doubt he's been a good servant to the club in my mind. But I think it's time for him to move on as well.

I speculated that Boro might come in for him a couple of weeks ago @commachio1

I think that would be a good fit for him.

dont forget what a shower of **** we were earlier in the season without oshea or catts in the team to lead.
i still think he has a massive role to play for us as captain whether he starts games or not.
i watched his post match interviews on safc.com last night and, for me, the fella's untouchable until we settle into mid-table obscurity for a few consecutive seasons.
i don't think even M'Vila or Kirchhoff would rally the troops or demand effort the way catts does.

He would certainly be a step up from their current captain...

Keep him, we need a squad not just a 1st team.

That's exactly what we should do with him, you couldn't have said it any better. If he wants to leave under those circumstances I'd understand it but I'd hope he'd decide to stay.

I wonder how many babies are given the name 'Barry' nowadays.

I'm probably one of his biggest critics but i love his style of play and no nonsense attitude, and he has come on in the later half of the season. A genuine leader of men, shame his ability doesn't match his heart, otherwise he'd be in Hodgsons squad now.

I'd keep him but can't see him as being an automatic choice each week.

I've been really impressed with how well he did playing further forward in the last games, I saw him play there for the first time against Leicester and he was awful and I thought we can't play him there again, but by the next game he'd settled in and was playing some absolutely sublime through balls.

He's not a good dribbler but he's obviously got a lot of quality in his passing.

He has the ability to pick out some great passes, mate. He can play through balls for the strikers, but I've also seen him switch the play and knock a ball 50 yards onto one of our players toes. The problem is his passing is to inconsistent, he will often with no pressure on him, attempt a 10 yard pass and will struggle to find one of our players, he gives the ball away to much during the game to be a first team premier league player, imo.

Yeah I've seen the Gerrard style monster long balls over the years and he's done some beauts, the laser accurate through balls was a new one on me though.

Agreed on the losing possession, it's either a misplaced pass under no pressure or he dawdles on the ball and gets robbed. That cost us early in the season when we didn't have the quality to cover for it. Didn't matter as much towards the end but still, it is an issue.

This! M'Vila still isn't ours, anyway. Unless I missed something...?

I think in terms of skill and technique he had a fairly awful end to the season but with his work ethic and spirit there is no one better in the squad. I would be disappointed if he left. An invaluable squad member.

He's not yet, but M'Vila and Allardyce have both indicated they want to try and get a deal done, with Sam saying the sooner the better, so it looks promising.

This also is a big issue with him, I just think he's a little slow, not agile enough and not tidy enough to justify first team football, if we are to progress.
