In the mid to late 1960s we weren't thought of as a joke
I'm sure there were times before that when we weren't thought of as a joke
it was only really when we were nearly mismanaged out of the league by crooks and incompetents that we were thought of as a joke

Still a team with no top flight experience and no major cup finals. That now isn't the case and it will never be the case again. That is what I meant by a 'joke'.

There's a few teams in the Championship that haven't had top flight football and I would think the majority of League 1 and League 2 have never had top flight football.

What has that got to do with Hull City today (A team that HAS got top league and major cup final history) being different from Hull City pre 2008 (A team that HASN'T got top league and major cup final history)?
    Are you deliberately being argumentative?

You said: “anyone who remembers Hull City pre 2008 will view Hull city in a different way from any one who is to young to know Hull City pre 2008. Hull City were known as a bit of a joke”
I don't agree that Hull City were known as a bit of a joke. I don't think anybody who watched them in the 60s thought they were a bit of a joke.
I'm deliberately arguing with you because you talked nonsense. If you can't accept somebody disagreeing with you then you shouldn't voice your opinions.
Don't talk rubbish and then you are less likely to get criticised.

Pre 2008 the question/joke went - ''which is the largest City to never play at the highest level'', as you certainly know, that was Hull City, add that to us never reaching an FA Cup Final, or League Cup Final we were certainly the butt of jokes no matter how rose tinted your specs are .......... we won the Third Div in '65/66 and that's pretty much yer lot. From 2008 onwards, owners apart, we're a team on the up ......... long may it continue.

That is a question NOT a joke. If you think that is a joke I don't think much of your humour. Did you support City in the mid 60s to early 70s? When people looked at a forward line of Henderson, Wagstaff, Chilton, Houghton and Butler and the attendances they attracted nobody thought of the club as a joke. Before I started supporting City (before I was born even) they could have sold 200,000 tickets for the Manchester United FA Cup match (per Needler). We nearly got promoted to the First Division in the early 70s. I don't think you can look at the league tables and Wembley appearances and say a club is a joke. You have to be there and get the mood of the place. I think I can safely say you weren't supporting City then.

Despite being a city should Wakefield count as they've never been in the football league, as far as I know?

The given answer was Hull City, but it was never correct.

It was a fact trotted out, but never checked. There's been a couple of articles since, as people looked to see who took the title.
