Now that we're home and dry who do want to join us? Accrington Stanley Plymouth Portsmouth AFC Wimbledon If life was fair I suppose it should be Accrington. Same points as us and but for that disallowed goal it would be them instead of us. Looking at next season's League 1 there's a lot of travelling ahead. It reminds me of the old Third Division (North) and Third Division (South)! There's not much to be said for AFC Wimbledon's ground, though a day in Twickenham, Kingston or Richmond can be pleasant. Plymouth is just down the M5, but I like Portsmouth's ground.......still the feel of 'old school'. Having said that I can see Portsmouth being the toughest opposition of all four in League 1. So for me Plymouth, with Portsmouth close second.
If life was fair, Wycombe would have been relegated to non league as they had same points as us when we went down Accrington and Portsmouth seem to be our bogey team so not them please. However, it would be interesting to see how Accrington would survive on their budget and I think the Portsmouth fans deserve a little happiness after the last few years that they have declined due to their owners. They got fantastic fan base. Us and them at Wembley would have been some atmosphere! Plymouth have been in the top 3 longer than Oxford so maybe they could been seen to deserve it. Even though we are some travelling distance apart, somehow this is classed as a derby game! Wimbledon going up would be interesting because they would be facing MK Dons. Plus we were undefeated against them this season so they would be my pick
These 4: Walsall, Millwall, Bradford & Barnsley are in the league 1 play offs. Which 1 do we want to go up so we dont have to face them?
We have a good record against Bradford at home having yet to be defeated we have the better record against Millwall, Walsall and Barnsley so I'm not bothered either way.
And back to the original topic, Accrington Stanley for me, it would be a travesty if a team with ten points fewer than them pipped them to promotion and besides that I just felt so sorry for that little lad in the bobble hat .
In 2007 when we went up in the play offs, MK Dons finished 4th and 12 points above us. That wasnt a travesty
Plymouth look as though they're back on song. I think they'll beat Accrington in the final. I would prefer Plymouth or Portsmouth to go up because they're well supported and it makes for more interesting games in front of big crowds.
As Accrington finished 4th it ought to be them however Plymouth is relatively easy to get to and we seem to have fairly evenly balanced matches against them so my vote goes to plymouth
I hope it's Accrington from League Two. It would be great to see a club like them on their their budget to go up. As for League One I'd prefer Walsall to go up, but as long as it isn't Bradford. I still haven't forgiven Phil Parkinson for his role in the mass brawl last time we played them at the Mem.
Im watching the Portsmouth V Plymouth game. Been a good game so far. But the ref has been shocking. Im so glad we aint involved with the play offs. Its currently 2-2 after 65 mins. Pompey took the early lead then was pegged back by the 10th min to make it 1-1. Then the Plymouth scorer headbutted a Pompey player right in front of the ref and the ref didnt do a thing. There was a big bust up between the managers as a result of the headbutt and the ref sent off the managers. So the managers got sent off for just arguing and the player who headbutted didnt even get spoken too. That Plymouth player went on to score again when really he shouldnt have been on the pitch. But it was a good goal though. Half time Portsmouth 1 Plymouth 2. Early in the 2nd half Portsmouth wins a penalty (their 1st penalty that they have won at home all season) and they scored it to make it 2-2. Portsmouth look the better team and Plymouth just made a nasty tackle. Red card all day but ref gives a yellow. Thats 2 Plymouth players that should have seen red but they still got 11 meaning they still got a chance.
I thought Argyle looked the better of the two teams and should progress through to Wembley with Home Park advantage in the second leg on Sunday. Agreed though, that lanky Matt bloke shouldn't have been on the pitch to score their second, you just cannot nut an opponent and expect to get away with it and especially so when it was so clearly highlighted on the Sky television coverage, he may not have heard the last of that incident ! Argyle's manager was on the touchline for the whole game, it was their 1st team coach that got his marching orders with Pompey's gaffer.
I dont know the management set up for Plymouth so thanks for correcting me Im guessing as the ref seen the headbutt that he thought no contact so it depends on his report. If he says he seen it and didnt think any action was needed I dont think the FA can do anything. If he doesnt mention it then I think the FA will take further action. I could be wrong though. Did you see the interview on the pitch afterwards between the headbutter and the one who got headbutted. The headbutter played the incident down saying it was just handbags and tried to get the Pompey player to agree. He didnt agree. He just said he wont say anything and see what happens I dont think the Plymouth player liked that and then the sky interviewer made the Plymouth player (the headbutter) give the man of the match award to the Pompey player who he headbutted. That could have gone seriously wrong
Just noticed that Wimbledon have beaten Accrington 1-0 in tonight's 1st leg. Interesting that Wimbledon scored in the 93rd minute. Accy must be gutted at conceding late goals. The stats indicate that Accy had the best of the game aswell. I quite fancy Wimbledon to make the final now - Accrington must be so flat after losing out to us last week then repeating the same tonight. Be hard to lift themselves after 2 such disappointments.
Second half Wombles were the better team. IMO the game was a poor advert for the football we have been watching at his level. Accers should have scored directly after Wombles. Great save by the goal keeper.
