It's gotta be Man Utd, which means we just need to win for 6th. West Ham means we need Bournemouth and Stoke to win on Sunday (so no). A draw makes things a bit weird - we are 1 goal ahead (but behind on GF), so we would need to outscore (or draw) with WH to finish above them.

Glad ManU have someone to play for....WHU will be up for this as it is their last home game ever at this ground. Was confident United would win before, but not so much now. :emoticon-0107-sweat

It's a match not involving Saints that's actually going to be interesting. ;)

ManU have to win to make their season successful enough for Van Gaal to say... told you so. And that includes lifting the FA Cup. WHU obviously need to win for the same reasons that we need them to lose. They are in a dodgy run of form, whereas ManU are going really well. Hence, cheer up. Don't sweat the small stuff. ;)

When does everything go smoothly for us? If Saints fans can be made to suffer, Saints and the footballing gods will make sure it does....cue Liverpool and West Ham winning so it goes to the wire.

I think plenty of Saints fans seem to self-induce the suffering. The team are actually doing very well indeed. If only supporters would stop panicking long enough to notice. ;)

Apologies, I'm currently confused. Is 7th place enough for us to qualify if Liverpool finish 8th but win this year's Europa final? As surely them winning would mean CL spots for 1st to 4th and them, and because of the max from any country being 7 in Europe, then even if Man Utd win the FA Cup, it'd be just 5th & 6th place who'd get the two Europa places.

Or, have I missed something?

Ignore all else. If we finish 7th, we need United to win the FA Cup and finish in top 6. Forget everything else, because that could be the most likely scenario.

May I direct you to the General Chat thread, Hot Bovril has put up a very good chart that explains the permutations perfectly.

Ugly Inside pointing out that people have been seeking penance for supporting United last night. Doesn't say what will happen to us non-Catholics ....are we doomed to eternal purgatory (or supporting Portsmouth as it is better known). And didn't point out that we could all be facing the flames of hell again on FA Cup Final day.<devil>

I don't even want European football. We need to concentrate on winning the League.
I'm torn because I know the players want it and it reflects well on our season. However, missing out by a point or two doesn't mean this hasn't been a good season. We have had some great results, especially since January. May be better not to get it and have a very good preseason, but, we are so close, I would like to get in the Europa now.

Assuming we beat Palace, then we've gone into this week needing two out of six results to go our way (with each of the two involving a different side, and with one of those six games being the cup final). That's now down to two out of five results, after last night. Fingers crossed that it isn't reduced even further still tonight, and becomes two out of four. One out of four going our way, I'd fancy that. But not two out of four.
