Sorry to potentially throw this all up again, but I don't think I'm reading this in the same way.
If Liverpool win the Europa league then that means there are only two Europa places for next season.

So that's either 5th & FA cup winners or 5th & 6th.

So if Palace win the cup, Liverpool win Europa then 6th won't qualify

Missed the small detail that you still get three Europa league places if Liverpool finish outside the Europa qualifying places.

If that flowchart is 100% correct, then it answers my one remaining question - that is, if Man Utd win the cup, Liverpool win the EL, and Liverpool finish 6th, does the side finishing 7th get a EL group spot or a EL qualifying spot. The flowchart says a EL qualifying spot.

Ignoring Liverpool wining the EL, that outcome is what you would expect; 7th has to go through qualifying. But I just wondered whether Liverpool giving up their EL spot - a group stage EL spot, in this scenario (the "second best" EL qualifier) - would lead to 7th being upgraded from a EL qualifying spot (the "third best" EL qualifier) to a EL group stage spot (the "second best" EL qualifier). It's still only two sides in the EL.

It probably does sound like a very small point - and 36 hours ago, also a very unlikely point - but it could yet impact us. And you just need to look at us this season to see that getting through the qualifiers is no sure thing.

Can we, please, just finish 6th so I don't have to support Utd in the cup final.

You sure about that?

I'm going to go to the Palace game. I'll cheer my team, then applaud the lap of honour and bugger off. When I wake up next season I'll find out if I need to book Thursday nights off.

Everything else is too complicated for words!

The fourth, I think? We played one qualifier (Vitesse) and then into the play-off with Midtjylland.

Going straight into the group stages would be massively important. Those 4(?) qualifying games were a major pain in the arse, the uncertainty of not knowing whether we would make the groups meant we didn't build a bit enough team to fight the group stages (luckily we didn't make it...). Getting rid of that means we can make a proper transfer plan without the **** design of the Europa League getting in the way.
