I maintain that we have a decent squad which could challenge with the addition of 3 or 4 good signings but we are stuck with a manager who doesn't understand the PL or Manchester United.

Lets look at that for a moment

GK - check. best GK in the prem. top 3 globally
RB - Darmain is pretty good IMO. seriously messed around by van gaal
CB - Smalling has been very good for first 3/4 of season. has sturrgled a bit recent;y
LB - Shaw, has potential
CM - erm.... only decent here. carrick is ancient, sweinsteiger is past is and sneiderlin hasn't done great yet. need to change this
LW - weak
RW - weak lingard shows why you're 5th
ACM- Mata and rooney? probably strong enough but lacks pace
ST- Martial and rashford would give anyone hop

It would seem to me you could do with a CB, CM and look again at the wings. 4 seems fair. you need to play it fast and have more pace wide.

I think "potential" is harsh on Shaw. At the back end of last season and the start of this one he was superb.

Fosu-Mensah looks very good and, unsurprisingly given his Ajax background, can play in various positions. I really rate Herrera at either CM or ACM, unfortunately Van Gaal is destroying him and I think he may go back to Spain. Blind is also a very good footballer who can play a number of positions very well. Schneiderlin will be fine under a manager who knows how to use him.

I agree we need a dominant CB and pace on the wings plus a CM.

We're really not that far away but when you've got a manager who will play Ashley Young up top with Mata and Martial on the wings and Lingard at ten all at the same time, then you're slightly hamstrung!

bit early for the lad but he does look a brick **** house.

Herrera is light weight. technically good but... i think you can find better generally.

Blind is a utility player, good in a lot of places but would he be ideal in any? I'd put him as sub for you. very useful

I agree you are not as bad as made out.

Players Man Utd need to dump and replace to challenge for top 4 next season:

Jones
Rojo
Valencia
Januzaj
Carrick
Young
Herrera
Fellaini
Schweinsteiger
Rooney

Rooney was crap at CM when given the chance, and for the wages he's on you could buy 4 better players and be sorted for a decade

Now his nicotine-fuelled body is starting to break down it would be criminally negligent to let him stay

Rooney has won 6 points this season for Man Utd, even our injured reserve Benteke has twice that

Similar, though not as bad, for Carrick. If you need to use him more than an experienced 3rd choice player then you've ****ed up in your recruitment.

To pass sideways, dive, pass backwards, and sit on the bench?
To be fair Astro, I've long since realised that you haven't got a Scooby about football beyond the stats you devour.

The fact you think that Herrera passes backwards pretty much sums it up. He can't get into the team because he plays the ball forward too quickly for LVG's liking!

I'm aware of that and took some liberty with Herrera for the sake of not being [HASHTAG]#neutral[/HASHTAG]

I was right about the other 3 though <ok>

We're not mid table.

You are though.

Thanks for finding this.

He didn't say anything about our squad, he was specifically referring to your squad. And what he said about Smalling/Jones being pretty poor, Mata/Depay&Rooney being ineffective together (and Depay not scoring goals) has been spot on. Lets not forget this post was made before the signing of Martial & emergence of Rashford, the two players who have scored the goals to keep you out of mid table mediocrity.

A very passable impression of Vicky Pollard, well done.

The real story for both clubs is that city while on a poor enough senior recruitment due to pelligrini and perhaps the guys at the top they have been busily working away in the background building the structures that will develop over the long term.

The issue for both lfc and Utd is there is a large element of rip it up and start again... of course arsenal are far worse now...

If van gaal goes what happens to coaching? What happens to all thevu21s who played this year and win u21 league last year... etc etc

The reality is really building something takes time and people just are very impatient as fans.

It needs strong ceo and top guys who are no threats to the manager but build the structures. Bayern do it right imo.
