They should have a choice between marching the ball forwards 10 yards or the wall backwards 5 yards. That'll make things interesting.
Or allow repositioning of the ball anywhere within a 5 yard radius of where it was originally placed, as long as the ball doesn't go into the box.
He's absolutely awful. He's probably the only ref that I have genuine questions about the honesty of, too. The only game that I'm confident in calling fixed in recent years was Lyon's 2011 victory over Zagreb. The French side needed a massive swing in goal difference to get through their Champions League group. Ajax had to lose to Real and there had to be a 7 goal switch or they'd go out. The Dutch had two goals chalked off as they lost 3-0, while the Croats collapsed completely in the second half and lost 7-1. Perhaps it would be better if the team awarded a free kick should also be allowed to take the ball back if they feel it gives them more chance of getting the ball over the wall and down again into the net. Not a lot of players can do that from just outside the penalty area
The intent must be to have a potential material cost (concede a goal) due to the dissent, so the message gets through. In rugby, the 10m advance makes a penalty kick or a kick to line-out near the goal line possible. So you need the equivalent for football.

I remember watching that game in utter disbelief, it was clearly fixed. I personally really do rate Clattenberg and it's mainly because he takes each decision as it comes and isn't swayed by the crowd or the occasion. He gets a lot wrong, but they all do and that won't change until they're given more help. But he referees without an ego and I respect that. Moss, Dean and Dowd are all absolutely poor. Shame that only one of them has retired.
