Huth and Fellaini should both be hit with FA charges. You can't go grabbing and pulling down on people's hair while you also can't go elbowing people in the face.
Once again we disagree I hate the idea of any kind of video replay officiating, you only have to look at the controversy each week, with pundits and even ex-refs disagreeing over decisions, to know that it would cause as many problems as it solves. I'd far rather the PL took the same approach as their clubs do and start signing the best refs from abroad too, they've got plenty of money to do it.
Its a shame Fellaini didnt elbow him a bit better. That pulling of the hair in that fashion deserves some serious elbow to the face in retaliation. Totally understand Fellaini's response...just wish it had a bit more umph in it.
Nah, just get them after the game and get rid of the ridiculous rule that stops players being banned if the ref saw it and didn't send them off.
agreed its a ****ing stupid rule, retrospective action regardless of the ref seeing should be allowed
Dealing with it in-match is to prevent the nastiness boiling up ( "settling scores" etc) later on in the game, and to allow the ref to lay down the law to the players ASAP. I will also accept the latter part, if post-match the review can decree that the officials were in a suitable position to make the correct decision, but failed to.
I thought that way about the goal line technology. Absolutely agree about foreign referees. I also think that we shouldn't be relying on 40+ year olds with beer bellies. Just look at Jon Moss, it's disgraceful that we're relying on people like him. please log in to view this image
Refs need to be given more power. More freedom to dish out cards for pathetic behaviour by grown men.
Simple adoption of rugby rules would do for starters. Abusive language to officials = yellow card. Dissent to referee when a foul is awarded = march the ball 10 yds closer to goal.
Miking up the refs would be a start to assisting officials and improving behaviour - at least there wouldn't be any ambiguity about who called who a 'c**t'
This would be difficult to implement in football, especially if the foul is committed at a great angle wide of the box and marching it 10 yards forward basically turns it into a corner kick. Perhaps instead: Dissent to a referee when a foul is awarded = the referee can spray the players' faces and eyes rather than the grass.
Getting a ref audio feed into a live TV stream as in rugby is something I argued for. At least in real-time you can hear the refs decision-making process / rationale. Refs calling over team captains over to give warnings when the general level of behaviour is unsatisfactory, is another thing that is done well in rugby.
I thought they brought the move the ball 10 yards forwards rule in about 10 years ago but quietly dropped it the next season
March it 10 yds or until the line of the opposition box is reached (whichever is nearer) . Also ask the fouled team whether they want to march the ball forward or not.
