Has never been a good enough footballer, poor passer. However, cant doubt that results are better with him in the team.
Weight hasnt really come off since injury and wages are a problem.
Maybe we are lining up a replacement by Monday?!!

Hopefully Evans will slot into his shoe's. Perhaps we will see more of Cairney again who seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth for the last 2 months.

Ash has played for City for a great deal of my City-supporting life. It just won't be the same without him for me, but I guess this is the start of an overhaul. Even though we said it was a 'New Dawn' when we reached the Championship, then the Premier League, the same faces were still there. Now, it's like the Old Guard are finally being moved on, as if the fact we achieved so much so quickly just a few years ago has become a hinderance.

who knows what conversasion has gone on between brown and ash,but one thig for sure if ash believes anything brown tells him, he must be suffering from dementia.
if he goes i would personally like to see koren take over his role in midfield, with him being vice captain to barmby.
i have a lot of faith in koren and i think playing him in his prefered position with the responsibility of carrying the vice captains role could well gee up the formation.

With Barmby often only being used as a sub would it not mean Koren would be captain and Barmby vice? Koren captains Slovenia doesn't he, so if Ashbee left and Barmby wasn't playing he would seem like one of the best options for captain to me. I think Gerrard would make a good captain too but with him only being on loan it's not really an option atm i guess.

Havn't seen Cairney since the Scunny game i think, and he seemed to have a bit of a bad attitude then, wouldn't bother running for the ball, i wasn't happy with him. But dunno where he's dissapeared to, didn't he scald himself on new years?

If we can get a quid for Ashbee I'm all for taking it .He has been past his used by date for at least 3 years and only Phil Brown and sentiment has kept him in the team .He has limited footballing skills and his best defensive tackling tactic is to obstruct the opposing player giving away countless freekicks. The team at present are not functioning to their best in attack because of a poor midfield who don't give them decent service ,yet everyone complains about Simpson and others who don't really get the opportunities they should. I don't believe Harper is any better than Ashbee or that Dawson could captain the team in fact I'd prefer if both were displaced as soon as possible .No............ I don't have an answer to the "Stopper Role" having not seen enough of the options available. I believe the majority of Ashbee fans on here are living in the past and seeing his performances through rose tinted glasses. Most neutral soccer fans would tell you that he is below average as a player and there are lots of options in the lower leagues who would perform consistently at a higher performance level than Ashbee.

It's very clear that the turnaround in form of the team came this season when Ash re-appeared in the side round about the time we got the confidence building point at Leeds & never really looked back.

Having said that, I've noticed that Ash has looked very weary late on in games & NP must be considering subbing him in the 2nd half.

Barmby is such a great 2nd half sub, the earlier the better - he still has the legs go quiet a distance & can start whenever he's needed.

If, as the Mail suggests, he's dropped for today's game, I think we'll miss him badly. On Tuesday night, I think we'll miss him even more.

I don't know enough about Evans to know if he's an adequate replacement for Ash, but I know enough about Harper to know he isn't.

I'll be at the game with a close mate of Ash's today, obviously we'll already know by then if he's not in the team, but I'll see what I can find out anyway.

Ash is definitely not the future of Hull City and to my mind that is all Big Nige is planning for.

Sentiment does not put points on the board; I really think Nige sees Harper as his number 1 now.

The thing with Ash is i feel he has played well at times but not well enough at other times, if he was as consistent as he used to be i would hand him a contract there and then however he isn't. For old times sake i would offer him another year, but for me i have to agree with something i read elsewhere that he is playing the system for Hull to offer him a deal earlier than they planned. There is no doubt Ash wants a contract here but he is using the Preston interest to get him that deal, and tbh i am disappointed if he accepts and leaves. He should stay here, fight for a place and fight for a contract at the club he supposedly loves!

I can only assume that Preston are lacking leadership on the pitch and Ash could fill that position in Phil Brown's eyes.
Ash has had a wonderful career and now approaches 'twilight time' and I personally don't think that he has anything more to offer so a move might just secure him a better deal and a nice swan song.
I wish the bloke well as he has become a legend with us.

If Ashbee goes then we will have a better balance in midfield. Koren could captain I'm sure, and we also get rid of some more wages. It's a case of thanks and so long for all the fish.....
