Spurs Interested In Samba

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Luis Figo no7, Jul 28, 2011.

  1. Tottenham are poised to profit from Blackburn’s perilous financial situation with a move for Chris Samba. The Venky’s owned club has reportedly been asked to begin paying off its overdraft by the bank and have been forced to withdraw contract offers for current stars and opt out of transfers they had lined up.

Spurs have been alerted to their situation and
could attempt a coup over north London rivals Arsenal by signing the powerful centre-back from under their fiercest rival’s nose. Harry Redknapp has released Jonathan Woodgate and is resigned to playing Ledley King sporadically as he battles ongoing knee problems, leaving a glaring gap in his back-four. Rovers’ manager Steve Kean has denied the club have received any bids for the Congolese defender, 27, but Redknapp is not averse to launching transfer bids in the final moments of the transfer window and could repeat the trick to land Samba.

Redknapp doesn't sign our players and we currently have Gallas, Dawson, Kaboul and Bassong on the books, even if King's injured.
Hardly a glaring gap, is it?

I like Samba, but the £15m being rumoured is far, far too much for him.

It certainly is a bit steep and Samba's 27,so he also has no resale value as well in 3/4 years time.

Spurs need a striker, not another defender. Would be a strange signing.

Did anyone see him in the Barclays Asia Trophy against Villa? He made some pretty strong forward runs.

So when he's 30/31 he will have no resale value? Ridiculous.

I've seen prices quoted for him from £8-16mill so it's hard to tell whether he'd be good value but whilst Bassong is at the club and our top priority of a new striker is still unsigned, I can't see this happening.

    He's better than Squillaci.

I think you over rate our defenders. Samba would be an improvement on Djourou. For such a big guy, Johan seems to be a bit of a pushover. He also seems to be prone to the same brain-freeze that afflicted Clichy. Samba and Vermaelen together would be excellent; with the other two as backup. Squillaci can bugger off back to France.

Would you not consider Song a first choice in midfield? Vermaelen seems to pick up injuries every couple of weeks and Koscielny has his moments. Squillaci may be back up but he still played 32 times last season and I don't think Samba would be opposed to play a figure similar to that. He's a strong defender and great in the air, he's the kind of player I think Arsenal need to be honest.

No need to wait. You are quite correct, those great defenders still out-performed the Spuds over the season. We had 13 clean sheets in the PL compared to your 8.
Our front men & midfield also out-shone your prime examples of mediocrity.

....anyway, why haven't you left yet?

    Reknapps transfer policy:

    1. Try and sign players Arsenal are linked to in the tabloids
    2. Re- sign players he's previously worked with.

What a genius! ..and this is a man repeatedly linked to the England Job?..Sigh.

What a ridiculous view of Spurs' transfer policy.
Spurs and Arsenal are linked with hundreds of players in every window and they're often the same ones.
Only an idiot would think that there's any real connection between the rumours about one club and the transfers of another.

One thing, in the England job - you don't need to make transfers.

I`d be happy if we offered £5m + Keane for Samba, any more would be too much. He`s a decent player (better than Bassong imo), versatile and would provide good cover.

The way we (Arsenal) play, I think the game will bypass Samba. He'd more more suited to a slower less technical team like Tottenham.

And your comments are more suited to a slower, less intelligent board, like Arsenal's.
